The BBFC's rating of Mass Effect has revealed new and tantalising plot details from the BioWare RPG, including the revelation that one hot alien sex scene contributes to its angsty 12 rating.
"The game has been classified at '12' for moderate violence and one sex scene," reads the BBFC rating. "The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague. If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien.
"If playing as a female character the scene can take place between her and a male human or a female humanoid alien." Let's hope it's not with a Krogan, the Pat Butchers of the stars.
"The game also contains use of the word 'bastard' and at least one aggressive use of the word 'bitch'," the listing continues. "Both of which are acceptable under BBFC guidelines at '12'."
In our recent interview BioWare doctor Greg Zeschuk hinted at gay relationships in the RPG, but didn't mention anything about the steaming lesbo nookie. "There's some interesting stuff in the game that's a little bit different. I'll leave it at that," he said.
We're guessing that because Microsoft has willingly given up the scene, it's neither that graphic, nor will it rile up another hot coffee controversy. Bugger.
Jesus, how scared are these people? I can fcuk an alien!!! But cant have a bit o man loving. Anal sex in video games that's what i say. That'll p*ss all over manhunt 2's crown to be the most shocking game. These geeks are so used to screaming "fag" at people over Live that they are scared they've become a homo. And yes i get it... your such a dork/geek/nerd and get stepped on all day everyday that screaming "fag" on games is the closest ya get to feeling like a man. Reverse prejudice , i get it all ready. Now shut up you lezza.
Oh christ this is so tacky. Theyve prob just put it in there to get all the sad spods excited.
Sigh
Bioware has always featured love-interest subplots in their RPGs since KOTOR and it's always been sex-independent. Well... atleast if you played a female you could usually woo the female love interest anyways.

Actually allto earlier than that, every RPG they have made has had a love interest. It has nothing to do with grandstanding, its simply them making the most involving/immersive RPG they can make.
Having not played the game and based on this article alone this sounds about as progressive as the fake lipstick lesbian titty action transmitted on one of those late night phone in channels. It's ok to include gay relationships as long as it's titilating to teenage boys. God forbid they offer the option of male/male relationships. Sigh.
I find it hard to believe that in a fictional world where you can screw an alien you can't screw one of the same sex. I thought Mass Effect was supposed to be a shining example of games as art but this choice makes it sound about as shallow as an edition of The Sunday Sport.
Still, I'll reserve by better judgement until I play it I guess.
If you'll notice, if you play a girl you can only do it with a female humanoid alien not a human female. The reason they can do this is because the alien in question is Asari (the blue ones) and their entire race are asexual, neither male nor female, but to humans they all look like women. So technically it wouldn't be lesbian sex scene.
Semantics aside, this is just another reason I want this game.
Putting aside lesbian scenes and boobs. I think this really shows the difference in what is accepted in video games or cultures in general between the UK and USA, as here Mass Effect has a 12 rating and in america it has an M rating (17+). Fahrenheit, in america had its sex scenes removed but all the violence was left in tack, then of course there was hot coffee in gta all the violence and stealing meant nothing, well there was a fuss but it was the hot coffee that made them sit up and take real notice.
Interesting news. While I have absolutely no problem with the concept of the sex scenes being gay I do have a problem with this...

Gamers all over the world are trying to convince the mass media (and parents), that games aren't the end of all things civilised and here you are complaining that the game won't stoke up the fires and get people lighting their pitchforks. Maybe as game lovers we should look at our reactions towards the people against us. Because we certainly aren't helping ourselves!
Well I intend playing the game as a male Sheppard so thankfully I won't see this frankly disgusting scene!
Seriously, though it is a bit sad that people get excited over this kind of thing when you can see the REAL thing by popping down to your local video store or paying for a prostitute if you're that desperate to see a woman!
It reminds of when everyone went ga-ga over Lara Croft in Tomb Raider on the PSone... I mean honestly, have you looked at her?!? Even back in 1994, she looked like an ugly, badly modelled, blocky "thing" yet people still drooled over her. How sad...
I guess prepubescent teenage boys need to get their "kicks" from somewhere I suppose!
exactly. If you want to watch something like that dl some real porn.
Plus its ony getting a 12 rating so you know your not actualy going to see anything dont you? But then again why would you want to see virtual HD lit polygon porn?
Hey guys, you do know that you can watch REAL women having sexual relations? No? Oh...
Dev's will do anything these days to sell a game because sad-sacks like you lot get excited over a bit of pixelated booby...
Theres nowt wrong with a little pixelated booby!!! I mean, you can't say the boobs on Dead or Alive didn't make you think mmm they look lovely, before realising it's just a graphic then feeling a bit of a perv????
