Crytek has sort of released the minimum system requirements for its upcoming PC shooter Crysis. Confused, don't worry - so are we.
The specs slipped out onto the web and then they were quickly followed up with:
UPDATE: These system requirements were released by accident and are not an indication of the final minimum requirements for Crysis. Crytek are still optimising Crysis and so as soon as they get a clear understanding of what will be able to run this game, they will release the final requirements to the public. I'll leave the unfinalised requirements below for reference only. So at least we know what the minimum requirements are not.
These were what were being touted at the minimum specs:
CPU: Intel P4 2.8Ghz or AMD equivalent RAM: 1GB Video Card: 6800GT (256mb) or ATI/AMD Radeon 9800 Pro (256mb) HDD Space: 16GB OS: Microsoft Windows [XP and Vista I imagine] Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

yeah, sounds bogey, however 9 gig on a dual layer DVD it could be massively compressed, but i doubt it. Also it would look like total crap with those specs
I wonder if it's that size because it works differently on Dx9 and Dx10. Obviously the consoles only need to worry about the Dx9 version so that could take a load of space out.
But I didn't think the coding would've been so different that it needs essentially 2 sets. I have to guess that 16Gb is an over-estimate and hopefully also includes the swap files
The multiplayer beta only has one map, and the demo is around 1.4GB.
That probably doesn't even include high resolution textures that will no doubt ship with the final release, so I can imagine a full dual layer DVD being quite plausible.
That doesn't actually look too painful, my old machine could have run that. Well I guess my upgrade wasn't complete worth it after-all, well until I get the chance to play it.

Actually the consoles don't need to worry about DX9 or DX10 because it's PC only These specs aren't accurate anyway, people can get a reasonable idea of them when the demo is released on Tuesday.
im on the Beta and get very playable framerates with everything on medium, which looks great by the way. I have a 7900GTO (for now), 2gig ram and...well i do have a QA6600 but im positive a 2.67 core2 would give the same results. Beta only goes up to High settings, theres another very high blanked out. This game would eat any high end PC for breakfast, tho its still not the best looking game ever, that prize goes to team fortress 2

Demo delayed read this on gamespot: The good news: Electronic Arts and Crytek are still releasing a demo of their forthcoming PC shooter Crysis. The bad news: The demo has been delayed to October 26, three weeks before the game goes on sale. "We are taking some extra time to make sure you that you have an amazing experience but also we did not want to risk the release date of Crysis at this stage," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli explained in a statement.
Yerli partially assuaged impatient gamers' ire by announcing the Crysis demo, which will be available via GameSpot Downloads, will ship with the CryEngine 2's Sandbox 2 game editor. This will give "the community the opportunity to get familiar with the vast amount of tools they will have at their disposal" when the highly anticipated game arrives on store shelves, said Yerli. For more information on Crysis, peruse GameSpot's extensive previous coverage.
Wow i was thinking i would have to play this at rubbish settings if at all, long live being mediocre!i doubt it will end up being 16 gigs but over 10 seems likely. thank god i don't suffer from asthma i i,ll be on the floor come release day, no offence
