First info on EA's sci-fi horror game Dead Space

It'll deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action, says EA
News broke on Dead Space a few moons back but we now have the first details on the sci-fi horror game in development at EA's Redwood Shores Studio.

"In the brilliant, bold and often-bloody Dead Space, gamers will step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that promises to deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action", we're told.

Set in "the cold blackness of deep space", the game drops you into the shoes of Isaac Clarke, an engineer sent out to fix a communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship.

"It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship's crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive."

Sounds a bit like Alien meets Event Horizon.

Exec producer on Dead Space, Glen Schofield, has said the development team embarked on production of the game wanting to "create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time."

Dead Space is heading to Xbox 360 and PS3. It currently has an autumn 2008 release date.

...every single year until the franchise is as tired as a sloth on a treadmill.

I can feel an imminent Dead Space '09 announcement coming!

"Autumn 2008 release date"?

Heck, that's really soon. Where's the customary 2+ years of hype? Did I miss the E3 showings? I've not even seen a screenshot yet...
