Microsoft has admitted there's a problem with Halo 3's Limited Edition packaging scratching game discs, and is now offering replacements via the Xbox website.
The problem is blamed on the plastic and foam nub in the LE tin designed to hold the discs; it turns out plenty of gamers - including CVG - are opening their copies of Halo to find the discs loose and scratched.
Microsoft's replacement program lets those unfortunate few download and complete a form to get a working copy for free, with a minimum wait of two weeks. Other games are covered by the program, but you'll have to pay £10 for anything that isn't Halo.
MS guy 1: 360 price drop? MS guy 2: Check MS guy 1: sales up? MS guy 2: check MS guy 1: halo 3 gold? MS guy 2: yep MS guy 1:halo 3 pre orders well over million? MS guy 2: double check
MS guy 1: thats us sorted isnt it on release date? MS guy 2: actually not, turns out the limited edition tins are crap and dont hold the disc in it at all, scratcing it to bits.
MS guy 1: how the f**k did we let this one mistake creep into our 360 policy?
MS guy 2: we used the same quality people, who we tested out the 360 on for overheating, they said it worked, why not trust them again?
MS guy 1: arnt they the blind, deaf stupid idiots, who cost us over a billion dollars to fix their mistakes?
MS guy 2: thats them, or you could just call them product designers......
Why oh why did this happen, you would think MS wouldnt want bad publistity again wouldnt you, specially since the worlds biggest game has just came out.
My friend has a legendary edition on preorder (with 30%) and doesn't want it. If my lim. edition is damaged I'm going to send it back for a refund and get the legendary one instead. Not waiting two weeks.
While this is a common problem, it is not ALL copies of the game.
If mine is scratched, i'm taking it to GAME, and demanding either a cash refund, or an on-the-spot replacement where I can check the disk. It will require unwrapping multiple cases to find it, but I'm inside my legal rights to do so.
2 weeks is ridiculous though, and I feel sorry for those who get caught out by companies who don't have high-street retail stores.
It's not just a few. I waited in a Wal-mart line for two hours last night to get my LE copie. Drove a half hour to get their as well. Got home and opened it up to find not only the disc scratched all to hell, but the metal casing was dented it on three corners pretty bad. Called Wal-mart and they said ALL the LE copies were being brought back. That's just messed the hell up. How does something like this happen?
Looks like I waited for nothing. Two weeks is a long time to wait after you camped out all night just to play it. All is not lost though. I did pick up Heavenly Sword while I was their. That game is so awesome BTW. At least I can play that while I wait for my copie to come Via the mail... two weeks... damit.
When I received mine in the post the disk was loose, but not scratched. There isn't really much in the box to scract it. The wife even stood there and shock it to figure out what could be knocking around.
COME ON !! Why not send discs to the retailers so we can exchange scratched for new. It would take less time 2 weeks. Or why not watch the Feature DVD if it isnt scratched and then take back to the retailer for a credit and buy the cheaper version. Job done and saved some cash, I would only watch the disc once and I am sure most would do the same.
Sounds bloody lame from MS to make us gamers wait for 2 weeks to get a replacement, i'm not gonna do such a thing, i'm gonna get my replacement from Game thankyou very much

Hang on, we arent talking about a system malfunction here. We are talking about inadequate packaging, across the board. Its not a few faulty tins, its all of them. Games come in big cardboard boxes and from the manafacturer to the delivery guys to the stock room those boxes get bumped something awful. If it doesnt take much to bump them lose then while it may not be ALL the games, it oculd certainly be the MAJORITY.
FYI, for those who ordered by the post, you probably have less of a chance of getting a mint condition one. As you have added another huge step where it will be bumped around considerably, more so than before. Manufacturer to courier, courier to Play.com, Play.com to royal mail, post office to sorting depot, sorting depot to your towns sorting depot, depot to postie, postie to your door.
And thats why I dont order online btw.
Someone just said he got his from gameplay.com and it was fine. I've ordered it from game.co.uk out of convenience, but if it's scratched i can take it back to the store. If the game is loose, but undamaged, then there's not too much to worry about.
What type of case does the Legendary edition game come in. I know you get the helmet, but is the case the game is held in the normal plastic one or the tinned edition?
Some crap, needless fake conversation between Microsoft employees

Couldn't you have just said the bottom paragraph, the first bit wasn't funny. At all.
I did not get a scratched disc, but with my Legendary Edition, my two Bonus Discs were missing. However, on the other hand I got two copies of the game.
Does it not seem a little harsh to have to pay to get a replacement for your game when you could probably more easily take it to the shop you purchased it and get it replaced there. I mean, why would you pay an extra tenner because you were an unlucky sole to get a scratched copy?

I had that problem this morning at my local Game store here in Aberdeen, luckily I got a replacement , after the shop assistant had opened another 4 limited edition cases all with heavily scratched disks. Got a free dvd case to put my disks in to prevent them from scratching in the future.
The scratches all over my disc are now the least of my worries. Trying to design my online character, and boom! Three Red Lights on my brand spanking new Elite.

The Legendary Edition comes with normal game cases, which is a bit of a shame...although the Spartan helmet is much larger than I thought it would be - the box is bigger than the one my 360 came in!!
