Ubisoft reveals new Clancy franchise

Tom Clancy's Air Combat the latest under Ubisoft's tactical banner
Ubisoft has revealed a new franchise under its Tom Clancy banner, the not so snappily-named Tom Clancy's Air Combat, coming to next-gen consoles and PC.

Set in the near future, the game puts you in a world where - yep, you guessed it, the US is under attack. As a hotshot pilot you're put inside powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, where hi-tech piloting assistance can help you shoot down the baddies, Top Gun style.

Apparently as you progress through the game you can choose to shed the assistance, taking a risk and choosing performance over security.

"We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit," says Sebastien Delen, managing director of Ubisoft's Bucharest studio, which is taking up dev duties.

"The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes."

Good to see that success hasn't gone to their heads.

IMO this game sounds very bland and s**te. Not cool Ubi bot cool at all.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more...flight combat games are not the most exciting games....in fact they are mostly crap!!! Even the old school classic Afterburner got repetitive, and dont let me start on the new Ace Combat for 360, played the demo and fell asleep....nice graphics thats about it.

Be careful UbiSoft, dont get carried away now, you got some hot product coming out but dont over do it.

What happened to Splinter Cell Conviction, I aint heard too much about it....???

I'm all for more air combat games if they can get somewhere near what Ace Combat brings to the table.

I want to know why they're sticking Tom Clancy's name to it. The guy knows even less about air combat than he does about the other crap that has his name on it.

If you're going to stick someone's name to an air combat game, the least you could do is bring back Chuck Yaeger.

I've not enjoyed any air combat game since Starfox!

Ace Combat for me just isn't fast enough, and it gets pretty tedious after a while, much like Blazing Angels...Who knows perhaps this game will do it much better.

Was about to say, I though Tom was more into special ops and ground force modern warfare, as the books seem to fixate around, rather than f***ying around in Eurofighter Typhoons and the like.

Sounds like a rather obvious licence/big name milking exercise to me.

Am an RAF fighter pilot. Air Combat games got me in to flying. So I like games like Tom Clancy's Air Combat to get other poeple in to flying.

mmmkay...

Every game coming from ubi is going to be tom clancy something or other since they bought the license outright last week.
