Nintendo's pockets are getting fatter and fatter as its dual screen handheld breezes past the 50 millions global sales mark.
The relatively small island of Japan still leads the rush for the portable, snapping up 19.41 million consoles - more than five million more that the US, where 14.39 millions units have sold. 16.48 million units have sold in Europe and elsewhere in the world, according to the VG Charts figures.
While PSP still trails with just 23.37 million sales worldwide, recent weeks has seen Sony's console gain pace as Sony launches the slim version of the console - Japanese consumers have purchased over 300,000 PSP Slims in the three days since the system was launched.
PSP software sales are also up this week in Japan as big games like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops draw in the punters. Exact figures are yet to be confirmed.
Wow a dent just cannot be put into the sales of that thing.
The DS has stuck to the tradition Nintendo Principle which has been a very successful since the first Gameboy. Also with backwards compatibility under it's belt it has more games than one person could ever possibly play.
Well done Nintendo for creating what is obviously a fantastic profitable product. As always playability over graphics prevails. My only gripe is if Nintendo are making so much money on the DS, and the Wii is the only Console that makes the manufacturer any profit out of the big 3, then why can't they push the boat out and create a system that delivers both graphics and playability?
