Gabe Newell has said Valve still has plenty of Half-Life to mine as the developer slowly creeps toward the grand Episode Three finale, which it's expected will conclude the story arc established in the original game.
"...there's specific stories and character arcs or plot lines that we know terminate", Newell recently told us. "But... we have this bible that covers a lot, and there's a lot of interesting stories to tell." We'd like to our hands on that....
He cited Portal as one of the "interesting stories", explaining that the puzzle game is bringing out stuff about Aperture Science way before Valve had originally thought it'd be telling other stories set in the Half-Life universe.
"We'd certainly love to be working in other universes because any time you get two Valve people together they come up with five game ideas and thirteen universes that they would like to tell and play them in. So there's a lot of Half-Life left at Valve", Newell said.
Keep 'em peeled for our full interview with Gabe Newell hitting soon.
awesome.. the half life series is one of my favourites. but im hoping for a conclusion to the gordon freeman story in the near future, hopefully in the form of half life 3.
well, if the Episode delay has purely been due to the PS3, then the main team would be able to get on with Episode 3 while the PS3 version of Episode 2 is finished off. although I doubt it will happen, we could have Episode 3 before next Christmas
There's a high probability that I will cry like a baby when the gordon freeman story of the half life universe is over. I've been playing that story for about 10 years now, and was 12 when i played the first half life (i think) so this has been one of the games I've grown up with, and i feel lucky to have done so.
Episode 3 has been in development for over a year already - I reckon we'll see it next year.
That's an interesting point and does make you wonder if they might try and deliver on their promise of only a 6 month gap between episodes.....
A la Pirates and The Matrix? Hopefully.
But please Valve.. PLEASE do NOT end the main series on an episode. Half Life 3 would be awesome - a full game with a climactic end, if the series has to end

Valve arent working on the ps3 version, EA is. So that has nothing to do with any delays.

you can bet your bottom dollar, there will be a half life 3. gabe newell has all but cionfirmed it, he was asked about it in an interview and he said valve wanted to see how people react to the episodes before deciding on a format for hl3...im hoping its a full length game.
