MGS4 Not Kojima's Last?

Konami says Hideo Kojima will "always" be involved with the Metal Gear franchise, despite his statements to the contrary
Metal Gear franchise creator Kojima said at the E3 Media and Business Summit in July that the hotly anticipate PlayStation 3 title Metal Gear Solid 4 would be the last Metal Gear game that he is directly involved with.

But in a recent phone interview with Next Gen, Konami Digital Entertainment's new marketing VP Anthony Crouts said otherwise.

"I'm sure he's never going to let go of Metal Gear Solid-trust me. [Snake's] a big character, so as a franchise I think he'll always hold it near and dear to his heart.

"In one capacity or another, he will always be involved in the Metal Gear franchise."

This wouldn't be the first time that Kojima has said any one Metal Gear game would be his last. The celebrated developer most recently said the same thing about 2004's Metal Gear Solid 3.

The future of Metal Gear's famed protagonist Solid Snake is also in question, as trailers depict a character on the emotional and physical brink.

He always says the current one is his last but it never is.

The bonus cheque might have affected his decision!

Snakes an old man for god sakes in MGS4. He looks lame and has totally lost his gritty coolness. Why not just let the man go out in style with one final game rather than continue to milk the franchaise?
At least take a decent break from the series in order to reinvent it and in that time create a new series or revist the ZOE universe...

I wish Kojima would stop making all these claims about the last MGS game. Its only hype to raise anticipation on part of the buying public, usual marketing stuff.

Anyway, he best be careful because this MGS series needs some reinvention. I was totally unimpressed with the recent gameplay movies, didnt seem like much of a leap and the game to me still seems sterile. The character animation is stiff and the environments are mostly lifeless from what I've seen. Its got some nice touches but nothing amazing...

My advice is go and spend some of that Sony payoff money and come again with something fresh. I'm not a hater, I own a PS3 and an Xbox360 plus a whole batch of older consoles so I just love gaming....but for me the MGS series need an injection of something, I know its stealth but do the evironments have to be stealth and boring as well?

He won't be as involved as he has been before, but Konami won't turn down help from him, will they now?

Saw it coming. He said MGS2 was his last, and well.... he'll keep making them. It's probably Konami's biggest franchise, they won't just let it go, and he won't let them take control of it because it's his baby.

this will probably the last game where we will see 'Hideo Kojima' written in every third line of the credits!

I don't mind if he makes another, just aslong as he dosen't turn MGS into a pile of s**t like Nintendo have done with Mario.
