Any hopes you may have had about the Halo movie ever seeing light of day should be put on hold indefinitely, according to comments made by the would-be director Neill Blomkamp.
"The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration, Blomkamp said.
And the reason seems to be down to the movie studios: "It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox.
"That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens." Us too...
Phew, that's a relief. We've just been saved from another Hollywood bastardization, at best.
Did you not see the Halo mini movies???? They were fantastic and made on a shoe string. If more money was poured into a film that was similar to those it would be brilliant (+ they wouldn't have to make it in a paintball arena!)
not really a fan of Halo, but they would have probably raped the game like they have done with the 3 Resident Evil films. only recent good game to movie film was Silent Hill.
I think this can only be a good thing. Just look at Doom, Resident Evil, Mario Brothers (while, as a kid i quite liked the film, it didnt even resemble the game)et al
I think it's kind of ironic that while reading the article, the Resident Evil Extinction trailer was playing on the same page. It makes you glad that the same thing won't happen to Halo as it did to Resident Evil.
With halo 3 earning some 185 million on day one and then taken 300 million in just one week in the states and in the region of half a billion worldwide within a week, its going to sale past the one billion mark quicker than the 3 films to have ever done that (Titanic, return of the king, POTC dead mans chest), all a studio would have do is spend about 80 million on a film and, boom they would be rolling in it.
Going by the shorts that were made, a halo film would be great, it will happen, after all halo franchise has made well over 3 billion dollars for MS since it started.
I've said it before but i reckon if the 2 studios don't get their act together i can see Microsoft bankrolling the film with the help of WETA/Peter Jackson, giving total artistic control to bungie/jackson and it will not only be awesome but will make an absolute f**king mint.
The old good game to film that there has been is Silent Hill and, due to some acting, that wasn't perfect either.
The reason Silent Hill worked is that it played like a game ie there were times when not much happened and the character was just exploring. This made it seem weird and even boring to some but to those who've played the games it made it even more intriguing.
Halo may not be a Silent Hill type of game but it still needs to remember to be like a game if it is to be very, very good.
As I've never been bothered about Halo, though, I couldn't give two hoots either way. I hope the film isn't made so that some fat shareholders who've never played a game in their lives don't make more money.
A straight Halo movie would be s**t. Come on, it really would. Another brainless money-grubbing attempt to get at the wallets of a fanbase, desperate just to give them some self-indulgence.
A feature length "Red vs. Blue", now that would be more interesting.
