You can now download a 730MB Painkiller: Overdose demo which features two single-player and two multiplayer maps from the PC FPS.
Overdose actually began life as a mod, but has turned into a full retail product.
It acts as a prequel to the original shooter from People Can Fly, and promises to deliver the same frantic gameplay we saw the first time around - but with a number of new bells and whistles attached.
I know a lot of people dislike the PK games, but for my money they've been the best pure shooters of the new millenium, and rightful inheritors of the Doom/Quake crown, much more so than the Serious Sam line, as good as that is.
I really liked the original Painkiller. It was a no-nonsence, no brains shooter that didn't require you to think or solve mind bending puzzles, just to have a fun time blasting away all those horrible monsters!
I will defintily give the new demo a go, but I do hope they've upgraded the engine a bit. It was good a few years ago, but will be showing its age today. Still, even if they havn't I bet its just as much fun to play as the original.
I doubt you'll be disappointed. This demo is really good fun. Even more so, because you've got access to around eight different weapons, all of which are really cool to use. I didn't expect it to be as good as I found it to be, but I can see myself having a lot of fun with the full release - and I was only playing on Normal difficulty.
