Rockstar parent Take Two Interactive has released a statement concerning the recent leakage of Manhunt 2 to the internet.
Back in early September we reported that a version of Manhunt was cracked by hackers and leaked to the internet. Question was though, where did it comes from? Seems like Sony was to blame and not Rockstar.
According to Game Politics, the following statement has been released by Take Two: "Take Two Interactive confirmed that a former employee of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has acknowledged his responsibility for the unauthorised online distribution of an unrated play-test version of Manhunt 2 submitted for the European PAL PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system."
Is this a good thing? well, if the game is never to be released because of censorship issues, then I think yes it is...
...i'm not one who goes in for the whole pirate game thing, (other than perhaps downloading a couple of old classics that you can't buy any more) but when it comes down to being told by a small group of people what I can and cannot buy and play as a 23 year old man, then I'm all for it being leaked.
I do suspect, however, that the game will probably be released eventually - in a tamed down version.
Wonder what treatment you get from Sony for leaking a game, reckon it's a Hollywood style 'you'll never work in this here town again!'?
I think it's just dismissal and slap on the employment record if they let it out by mistake. Wilfully distributing will get something more serious and should they have profitted from it, they're in real problems.
so they found the culprit. i say hang him, or crack his nad's off with some rusty pliers! i read a forum post months ago, written by somebody claiming they'd downloaded an uncut ps2 version, he just needed fix it some how to play on his ps3. i think i also remember rockstars take two making a statement at the time saying how p'd off they were about it getting leaked. but i guess the guy just thought he was doing adult gamers a favour by giving them a chance to play it after it was getting unrated, over rated, or banned everywhere! i guess it'll be floating around on the net forever now. after reading ngamers raving review on MH2 last summer i've been dying to play the wii version, i don't think the ps2 version would look, or feel as good. i'm hoping it'll be available to import a pal wii version, with english lang at the end of the year. apparently holland are gonna release the full uncut version on all 3 platforms. so i don't think people will bother downloading the leaked version then. unless they're cheapskate knock-off nigel's. search here to preorder. www.nl.bol.com
Sony in the spotlight for the wrong reasons yet again...
This has nothing to do with Sony. Some dimwit employee sticks an ISO up to bit torrent, that's not Sony's fault. It's his/her fault and he got booted for it. Aside from monitoring all their staff 24 hours a day, there's nothing Sony could have done to prevent this.
But y'know, don't let the facts get in the way or anything..

I agree but I have to say that if it were the other way around Sony would be suing the company. They do after all like suing their music customers on the slightest whiff of wrong doing.

Not really their fault this time though.
i know mate but he's an xbot and is constantly writing s**te about sony/ps3. don't take his posts too seriously
erm.... dont you realise that he is a member of sony so it IS sony problem. Just because they sacked him doesnt mean they cant get in trouble. thats how the real world works son
Cudnt be happier it was leaked. f**k those censor c**ts. They just think they're "doing the right thing" cuz of all those hippies who gave out about manhunt 1.
don't you have to be registered with demonoid to download from there? (plus i heard its a awkward task to register). Anyway isohunt rules and so does bitlord. lol. i told you nothing.
Sky News actually had a news piece on Man Hunt 2 over a week ago. It was the typical sort of games industry is bad/evil nonsence etc.
But, what I found stupid was that it was all about how the game could be played in the UK even though its been 'banned'. I thought they were going to say a company is importing them illegally or something along those lines... but no, it was all about it being available to download off the net.
Then the really stupid part, the reporter was sat there playing the game explaining how they had downloaded it off the net and how it was a modded console. I couldn't really believe what I was seeing, on a national news station a reporter is sitting there openly admitting to:
1. Having a modded console 2. Illegally downloading a game off the net 3. Playing the illegally downloaded game which just so happens to have been refused classification
All in all it was a stupid piece of reporting to be quite honest, a story made out of nothing. But they did actually have an interview with somebody from Rockstar. In the interview he stated it was an employee that had leaked the game and not only had the employee been sacked but that 'preceedings' were taking place.
