Sony trademark trawl update

Lots and lots of possible new games discovered in latest Sony trademark trawl
The one man on the internet who camps out the US Patent and Trademark Office (we still haven't figured out who he is) sends word that Sony Computer Entertainment has registered a few new names - possibly for upcoming game products.

Described as "computer games apparatus adapted for use with an external display screen or monitor," (which is probably 'games' to your average bloke in the pub) names discovered include 'Ember', 'SkyBlue', 'Carriage Return', 'Race Day', and 'Strings Attached'.

Sounds like more off-the-wall PSN download games to us.

The company's Japanese office also went and trademarked something called The Broadcast Engine, which covers not only videogame consoles but mobile phones, DVD players and video cameras.

Apparently this is something to do with Sony's plans to incorporate PlayStation Network throughout its product line. Let's hope Sony gets a bit further along than Microsoft did with Live Anywhere, eh?

The Broadcast Engine? Hopefully this relates to SONY's plans to expand Home beyond just the PS3.

Carriage Return, isn't that something to do with typewriters?

Sony are getting old school!

Edit: wow turns out I'm not making things up either - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carriage_return

Sounds like they're covering all bases as they uncover their next move. It'll be interesting to see what they do with all of these things.

Maybe Carriage Return is an official scheme for people that discover that the 40Gb PS3 doesn't include BC and want to return it? Laughing

More seriously though, the PSN extension sounds like it could be quite interesting. I wonder whether Home will be truly mobile?

Strings Attached sounds like it could be a puppet simulator with the motion sensor being the main method of control with buttons to perform limb actions.

Like Ragdoll Kung Fu, but with more physical interaction? Could be funny as hell Smile

Carriage Return could be an official Sony USB (or BlueTooth) keyboard...

Strings Attached could be a range of budget wired controllers (to go with the budget 40Gb PS3) - or could be a USB hub to provide more USB ports... (Although I like the suggestion of the PS3 marionnette puppet)

The Broadcast Engine could be interesting too - it could be related to the video sharing that has been talked about in Home, providing the option of Broadcasting to non PS3 devices such as PSPs or phones. Interesting times for Sony - makes a nice change for some non-negative news.

Surely that's more likely to be a Nintendo thing - they'd probably call it Super Marionette Brothers or something... Rolling Eyes
