Will Wright: Spore "roughly" six months away

"We have the game fully playable at this point and it's in final testing", reveals Wright
Spore will release in roughly six months time, according to its creator Will "The Sims" Wright.

"We have the game fully playable at this point and it's in final testing", Wright said yesterday in an interview with Radio 5 Live.

Spore's an ambitious game - which he admits - that's essentially a life sim. Players start off as a single-cell organism and then create their species at every stage of its evolution - from its first steps on land through to tribes then a culture and then finally it's off to explore the galaxy.

"We've had to do a lot of testing to make sure that the game is accessible by a wide group of people", Wright went on to explain.

"I want the people who have played The Sims to be able to play Spore - I don't want it to be some thing just hardcore gamers play."

We'll be looking out for Spore around spring 2008.

Not much chance of that, Will. It looks fairly dumbed down these days. So much so I'm thinking of not buying it - I hated the sims and I don't play kiddie games.

GO MY ALIEN SPORES, GO!!! Grow up and take over the galaxy!
(Accidentally inhales alien spores... Falls to his knees clutching his neck... Turns green and falls over... ... ... Oh dear Crying or Very sad )

Will be like fable all over again huge ambition, bucket loads of cash to make it, huge let down, dumbed down to nothing. Forget it being a 360 exclusive the Wii would be the perfect platform.

Sadly I'm inclined to agree with the rest of you here. Spore was sounding like one of the coolest ideas ever, but the last feature I saw on it was a real disappointment.

Well this doesn't appeal to me at all.

Seems to me like it is such a non-linear kind of game that it will just be fairly boring.

Plus, every one of the stupid species you can create looks crap, and it seems to have been talked about for the last 3 years or so, which is easily enough time to make me totally bored with the idea before it has even been released.

But I could be proved wrong, enough people keep talking it up, surely they can't all be wrong?

Since when the hell was this 360 exclusive?
Last time I heard it was PC only at the moment will the intention to eventually make the game on 360, PS3, Wii and DS.

I heard PC and DS.
Though the DS one seems way off.

I'm looking forward to this myself..

I was under the impression it was console exclusive to 360. I'll have a check but i think I'm right to say it is exclusive.

Edit: seems i was wrong about exclusivity.

Well I'm still looking forward to it, I'm just not holding my breath about that release date not slipping again.

Never has a comment made me shiver to the core quite as much as this.

I was looking forward to it until I saw the last feature. Made it sound crap
Runcieman tm on 24 Oct '07
Like most of the above posters im not getting my hopes up too much and ignoring the hype, hopefully it will be something special though. A big 'meh' if it isnt

I honestly do think that this could be one of the most over-hyped and over-rated games ever upon release...the whole concept just sounds plain BORING other than to anoraks, SIMS it ain't. Time will tell but i'll wager that this will dive quicker (other than the PC hardcore!) than a VM Unit!

Woah Reg, where you been? Not seen you round these parts in a long time.

Did he? Did he really? I hate to sound like a bastard, but learn to use your f**king apostrophes. (Am I allowed to say "f**king", by the way?)

Sorry but, what the hell are you talking about? There's only one apostrophe in that sentence you quoted and it's used correctly.
