Wii Shop 'gift' feature revealed

Wii owners soon able to send games to friends in new Wii Shop Channel feature
Wii owners will soon be able to buy games on the Wii Shop to send to a friend's Wii via a new gift feature, Nintendo has revealed.

The new Wii Shop feature will allow users to purchase a game (a Virtual Console game, for example) to send as a gift to another Wii owner. The recipient will then be notified of the gift and, once they accept, their Wii will automatically log into the Wii Shop to download the selected game.

Nintendo hopes this will get a larger portion of Wii owners to make use of the Wii's online capabilities. Company president, Satoru Iwata, said: "We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games [other than by?] word of mouth."

"We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet," he added, reports Yahoo.

A launch date for the new feature is yet to be set.

The last game I bought for a mate was Predator 2 on the Master System. I was 10.

If I buy a game, it won't be for anyone else. I'll get them a pint instead.

Could this work? Not sure, I don't think gamers are that generous!

definately useful in sharing games.i wonder whether sending a game to a friend acts as a time-trial so as to encourage people to buy it.
Maybe this will also mean we will see the whole "I cant boot off an sd-card" debaucle en d Very Happy

I get the impression it isn't sharing, you have to buy someone a game. so pay full price, but they get the game instead of you...

Haha, now that's not a bad idea... but clearly the loser would buy the winner 'Barbie's Pony Academy' or some crap like that!

It also means we could win VC games in competitions and from the nintendo store, just give them your Wii number.

I buy games for my mates on their birthdays sometimes and I can now buy my brother games more easily.
