No Portal on Wii, says Valve

Doug Lombardi tells us there's nothing in production
Rumours of Valve's mind-bending Portal game hitting Wii are, as much as we'd like them to be, not true, says the developer's marketing man, Doug Lombardi.

A story swept across the internet over the weekend saying that Valve's Portal was coming to Wii. And judging by the amount of emails we received from CVG readers, a Wii version is something that you'd all take to quite favorably.

With that in mind we spoke to Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi, who admitted it's an interesting idea but said there are no plans on the drawing board just yet.

"It's an extremely interesting idea, but there's nothing in product - not yet, anyway," he told CVG. Notice how he didn't rule it our completely? And let's face it, it would work on Wii, just a case of getting the engine up and running. We'll be keeping an eye on this one...

If Portal (part of The Orange Box) passed you by. Take a look at our in-game movies here.

looking at this on my 360 it would be a cinch on the wii and the controls would be spot on with the wii remote. to be honest though i've only played it for 5 minutes and got bored!! Sad

Portal is an excellent puzzle game that is very addictive & unique, problem is you really need a brain to enjoy!!...... Wink

I've not played Portal yet, but it does look like it could be fun. I want to see what the mod community comes up with before I spend out the cash on just 16 levels or so (and no I'm not getting the OB).

But if the Flash version is anything to go by, it's clever as hell Smile

It's a shame, after playing MP3 and trying Vanguard I see that the Wiimote is excellent for games from this perspective control-wise. Let's hope they can give a more positive answer and port it to the Wii.

They should port the entire orange box to the wii, they managed half-life 2 on the xbox, which while with afew flaws was great.

Portal's fun, but feels more like a set of training levels than a full game. So maybe if they develop a full game with the portal gun/device in they could "port" it to the Wii?

But,..that is the game???.... its a game about being in a training centre and.....ohhh why am i wasting my breath....

Look i've got a "crazy!" idea, why dont they make some new IP's for the Wii!!, i know that sounds nuts but it might work!, (and by new IP's i dont mean sticking Mario in a cricket jumper! or something)

Wow... He was only expressing his opinion, what's with the random Nintendo bashing?
Are you a Portal fanboy or something?
Oh-ho-kay.

How about spending more time on new Portal content, rather than porting the original game? Smile

As much as I'd love a Wii Portal version, I have to say they're a bit late with that.

I think portal would work really well on Wii.

Perfect combo.

Shame Half Life 2 isn't being discussed.

Still.. even if it did come out on wii, as I've said so many times

Portal reminds me of the VR training levels in the first Metal Gear Solid game.

SO it should be PC only! Laughing

Don't really care what it's on really. I think HL2 would be a good Wii release and they should work on it. Can you imagine using the grav gun with the Wiimote. Pushing the wiimote forward to throw things or pulling back to pick up stuff.

I've played HL2 to death on the PC and can't use a pad for shooters but I like using the wiimote in MP3 so I've got a new substitute. Very Happy
