Boy punches mother over Halo 3

A warning to mothers everywhere...
A 'juvenile' lover of Halo 3 has been accused of punching his mother (after she forced him to end his game) and fighting with sheriff's deputies as they tried to restrain him. Further reports that he attacked his mother and police with a 360 controller melee-style attack have yet to be confirmed. And won't be. We made that bit up.

Parents told deputies their son was playing Halo 3, and it was getting late and he needed to shut it off. Hey, we've all been there. But when he refused to turn it off, the parents reportedly took the air card* out of his machine so he couldn't play anymore.

Son then became enraged like a Brute that's lost his armour and went through the house looking for the air card. It was during this moment of him running riot when he punched his mother, and the cops were called. The kid then legged it back to his room (with the air card), locked the door and carried on playing.

Deputies and mum banged on the door but only got a load of abuse hurled back at them. Like when you actually play Halo 3 on Xbox Live.

Eventually he was cuffed and turned over to state juvenile authorities on charges of battery-domestic violence and battery on a law-enforcement officer. Let that be a lesson to you.

*By the way, if anyone knows what an 'air card' is please let us know. Unless it's Spanish for CD?

Is it anything like an air biscuit?
horngreen on 1 Nov '07
Ah, the signs of a child who is too used to getting his own way.

Few options for "air card" though. Presumably "air" is related to wireless, so it could be a network device. Or a wireless pad.

is it by any chance like those poor people who have to rent a TV and put coins in the back of it? but theyve now entered the plastic age and got a meter card like gas/water.

lol, that story is just too funny, we've all been there though, my folks used to just throw the trip switch resetting my computer and taking it another halg hour to load from tape, lol

Yeah, I remember the time I refused to switch off my SNES and my mum called the cops....... Confused
MisterBedo on 1 Nov '07
The bad part is the media is going to blame Halo 3 saying stuff like 'It makes you hit your mum' rather than it being a case of bad parenting or a out of control child.
pjdonnelli on 1 Nov '07
how is it bad parenting, just seems like a bit of a numpty to me.

how is it bad parenting, just seems like a bit of a numpty to me.

WHAT? How is it bad parenting? So your child punching you and then locking itself in its the room is expected?
Jonathan Ross on 1 Nov '07
Given this was in Florida, I think she should be grateful he didn't shoot her.

Little sod needs a good clip round the ear.
csdaveuk on 1 Nov '07
I think they had it coming. If you have to call the police because your child doesn't obey you, it means you can't raise kids.

A nice whack round the ear would be a good start in educating their child.

Are you serious? How is the child punching the parent bad parenting?

Sounds like sounds parenting. Taking away things when you don't do what you're told and calling the police when you break the law.

Can no-one google air card?? It's a wireless adapter by the way.

This is actually quite funny, I know I shouldn't laugh, but I did.

I don't understand what you said there. Sounds like sounds parenting? Confused. So you think that a normal reaction for a child is for it to attack its mother when she takes something away from him? Also, calling the police when your child misbehaves is just over the top. As if you put a lock on a childs door that you can't open from the outside. Fire, anyone?
Anyway, wheres the father in all this?

Sounds like sound parenting, is what I should have said and if you want to pick up on grammar, then:

So you think that a normal reaction for a child is for it to attack its mother when she tells takes something away from him?

Well, let's see. She's been attacked. If it's for something as small as taking a video game away from a kid, then I dread to think what would happen for other things. You need to cut that behaviour out straight away and I can't think of any better way.

No I don't think it's normal behaviour and you're confusing me as to why you're blaming the parent for this. Punching someone is not misbehaving. It's attacking.

I had a lock on my bedroom at home. It came with the house. My parents didn't put it there, it was a twisty lock, like in a hotel room.

Also, could be single mother?

That's some funny s**t and sounds like it would fit in an episode of Family Guy or the Simpsons.
Izo on 1 Nov '07
God I had to laugh at that, I know that it's wrong, but it is well funny.

Must be said tho, America is getting worse, in fact, it's not just the US, its us as well. This PC crap is getting beyond a joke. She probably never smacked him one for fear of getting locked up and added to some sort of violent parenting register. Confused

I can mind back in my Amiga days, I refused to turn off a game of Champ man I was playing and went bezerk at my mum (Think the next game was a cup final). Very simple solution, she went downstairs, got a pair of scissors, came back up, unplugged the TV from the wall and then cut the plug off. Safe to say I was left f*cked for the next week while I was punished for giving my mum abuse. Evil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad

If I had hit her, OMG, my head would have been embedded in the telly. Shocked

It's a mark of bad parenting. Sorry I'm with JR on this one, I would never EVER hit my Mom and that's out of respect for her which I have learnt.

If I ever did hit my Mom I'd prob be calling the emergency services and requesting an ambulance for myself if I wasn't knocked out cold that is.

It's a mark of respect to never raise your hand to parents, something that comes with good parenting. This woman was obviously not doing her job. Taking away the card... that shouldn't even have to be done.

When I was a kid and I got the turn off that Nintendo (even though I had an SMS, Laughing old school parents) and go to bed. I did it because if I didn't I knew what would come next belt or shoe Shocked

Far, far from it. If my brother punched me I wouldn't call the police. I'd make sure it didn't happen again. If you have to call the police to manage your child you have some serious home issues that need dealing with.
My comment about going to bed was because thats how it all started. The mother could not put the child to bed and when she tried to take away his distraction the child raised its hand. If child raises its hand to its mother there is something seriously wrong.

Oh, and I wasn't being picky about your grammer or spelling. Mine can be terrible, I just didn't understand what you meant.

Just imagine what he would have done if she confiscated his handgun?!

Set the house on fire? Just gimme 5 mins with this kid... Do you know what happens to you in the army if you backtalk a commanding officer? Esentially the same thing old school parents do or worse Shocked

I had to deal with some punk kids outside my flat yesterday. Making all kinds of noise and smashing bottles at midnight. I have to get up for work at 6, so I went outside, asked them nicely to chill out and they told me some profanities. So I grabbed the biggest one threw him into a dumpster (knocking his head on the sides first), elbowed 2 more in the face and the rest ran away like little b*tches Twisted Evil

These kids all mouth, don't know how to take a whupping Mad
vectra on 1 Nov '07
There's always the "In my day we had respect..." blah but I think it's simpler than that and it's been touched on in previous posts.

If we raised our hands to our parent(s), the punishment would be severe. If I'd hit my mum, the rest of my family would've dropped on me like a tonne of bricks.

God, even now the thought appals me!
csdaveuk on 1 Nov '07
My point is that if the child hadn't punched the mother, then the police wouldn't have been called out. So it's not calling the police out to get the child to go to bed.

Teaching a child how to act these days is very difficult. A lot of it does come down to parenting but there's also those who your child interacts with elsewhere, such as school. Personally, I think it's quite good that the mother showed consequences of actions by calling the police. Better than hitting the child back, isn't it?

Agree completely. The problem these days is that kids are treated as little adults, not kids. You cannot reason with a child, and they need to understand there are consequences to actions.

If your parents tell you to do something you should do it. No 'ifs', not 'buts', no reasoning, it should just be done.

When i was a kid (im 26 now) if i misbehaved badly enough i would be hit. I wouldnt be pleaded with, or sent to the naughty spot for 15 mins, as seems to be the way kids are 'disciplined' these days.

Being hit demonstrates consequences to bad behaviour, and reduces the chances of you doing it again.

I hate the way that parents today are frowned upon for smacking their kids. I have occasionally seen those Nanny programs, and it is a joke. SOme of those kids behave like animals, yet they receive no real punishment - sitting in the naughty corner for 15 mins, or having it nicely explained to them that 'hitting and spitting at your mum isnt the ideal way to behave'.

They need to be hit, and hit hard enough to know it was wrong and not to do it again. Its the only way they learn.

if punching someone was an offence against the law then every school would have to have its own police department

Police aren't much of a consequence, they can't and won't physically hurt you, plus they will probably give u less of a shouting than ur parents. A nice smack should do it or if your not the physical type just lock em in a dark cupboard for an hour or two, that would shaw stop me misbehaving... Wink

lol...nick shows what kind of parent youd make. how can any parent stand calling up the police and having their child get arrested? while its wrong that the kid hit his mom but..actually i dont know what im arguing about. all i know is that youre a son of a bitch if youre willing to call the cops on your child unless the kid has truly done something to deservehaving all love abandoned. either way both of the people in this report are screwed up.

Now this is comical.. Just comical. But if someone is enjoying something, let em enjoy it.

Parent's always thinking they know better.. Geez. (Well sometimes they actually do know better, it's a rare case though)

Well whatever the case, the boy should not of hit his mom. And if he did hit her.. She should of leveled the playing field, by going and getting large blunt object and beating him with it. That would of taught him a lesson. Yes I am actually serious.(You ask why? well to make up for lost discipline of course. It's obvious someone hasn't been parenting)

The police handling the situation as other posters have mentioned will not solve the problem.
