NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams will be the first Wii game to link to the weather channel to recreate a true-to-life weather system.
The game use data streamed from the internet via the weather channel to imitate the weather in your part of the world, so if it's sunny outside, it's sunny in the game, and if you live in UK it's constantly pissing down in the game.
This feature comes into play in a new virtual pet "A-Life" mode in which you look after and breed your own creatures. The mood of your creatures is effected by the weather, making them behave in different way when depending on what it's like outside - a bit like your girlfriend.
But we're actually going to rename it the "No-Life" mode, because the bare minimum graphical detail in these first shots of the mode are as lifeless as our Wii (which broke down last week - right before the Mario Galaxy launch. Bastard).
Have a look in disgust at these screens. Are they better or worse than these shots from Cruis'n, which we this morning thought were worst Wii screens we'd ever seen?
Graphics = Far worse than Cruisin', which were godawful.
Imagine if you lived in Scotland, the game would get about 3 hours of daylight a day. How depressing, just reminding you that you live in a s**tty climate by imitating it on a game.
Mine has been fine since launch day but this past few weeks it's making horrible noises and struggling to load every game. It reports 'disc read error' most of the time when loading games now and trying to finish paper mario is made even more painful by loading taking forever. I'm blaming MySims because that game thrashed the disc drive.
I just know it's dying but it's not yet dead. Galaxy is out in 2 weeks and my warranty must be nearing it's end. Bugger!

In that case I wouldn't wait for it to die properly, but contact Nintendo Customer Service asap!

Yeah I'd say do the same thing too. Mine has been going strong without any probs thankfully. I hope it stays that way.
The weather thing sounds typical of Sega, when I had my Saturn and Christmas came around a lot of my games would have Christmas themes and the music in some would become Christmas carols.
I am a little disappointed as I thought the weather changes would happen in the main game. This mode looks rubbish and I hope it gets better before launch. However I am still looking forward to the main game.
I see CVG are keeping up their negative reports on Nintendo news. Mario Galaxy selling "unimpressively"; moaning about Mario Kart being "ruined" cos it has no its gonna have bikes; no report on Okami coming to the Wii; using crap like Cruis'n and EA Playground and saying how crap they look (even though no one cares anyway) as main news reports...These are just some examples.
I've read this on other sites without the negative spin placed on it, so why is this one moaning about it? We already know the games looks pretty decent anyway. Maybe CVG should stop looking for crap news to post and find some good stuff (like I said, they posted the Okami news when it was confirmed). I'm not saying this site is biased or anything (not like Gamespot with its 360 fanboy writers) but this is just getting daft
Wow, the graphics looks like they are stuck in between the transition from PS1 to PS2, its that bad... If these sort of graphics are the trade of for a novelty effect such as true life weather effects then why bother?

I read CVG for its objectivity. It isn't an unbiased news source for a reason - because in most instances, it can be really boring to simply report
Also, the fact is that too many games developed for the Wii aren't fully utilising the graphics capabilities, so some are looking worse than PS2 due to the fact that they have no competitors on a par with them graphics wise.
If Mario isn't selling as well as expected - then it is clearly news, especially as the wii has sold better than the previous console. It is interesting and it would be more bias NOT to mention it!
Just stop crying your eyes out every time ther eis a negative story about nintendo! every other console gets it, ps3 has spent the last year or so with negative stories about it.

people. the wii has a 2 year warranty, you'll be fine.
I figured it was only one year, have to check tonight. Need to give them a call because it's almost every session now. I just know i'm going to be Wii-less when Galaxy comes out!
Anyone know how long it takes to get one repaired?

Well put, I'm always saying something negative about all machines! Except the Amiga... it was perfect! *denial*

I agree with you to some degree. Devs are just being too lazy (and then when they think they have the right to moan about it when their games don't sell). But what I'm saying is that this is the only site I read seems that seems to post only bad points like those. Mario not selling loads, to me doesn't mean anything. I'll be buying it regardless. Its just that I've only seen this site make such a comment (and I read a few number of sites). Its just the way CVG write it like its some great disappointment, expecting this massive crash on Halo levels. No point pouncing on it after one day. As far as I'm aware, in journalism you're not supposed to take sides unless you're clearly representing the product etc, like official mags (not that's even right to do so but that's how it is). As for PS3, that's deserved all the negativity its got due to Sony's bumblings. Yes, that's my opnion but I'm not writing for a site. I can be fanboyish if I choose but what I'm saying is websites shouldn't do it.
But yeah, your points are also true. I'm just talking about the way this site does things in general and just picked up on the Nintendo one as I've seen more examples in recent times.

Nothing to be in denial about the Amiga. It truly was one of the greatest!

To me and alot of people that is pretty big and interesting news. The debate alot of people have over Wii is whether it can actually frequently produce million seller games like 360 does and like PS2 did, due to the attach rate for Wii being so low. The counter for that was that there are over 12 million consoles out there and when the big games start hitting, huge sales will follow. Metroid Prime 3 enterted at something like number 10 in the charts and now Mario Galaxy, potentially the most anticpated game for Wii has such underwhelming sales. Alot of people will find that interesting and is certainly news worth reporting.
That's absolutely atrocious. That looks like something between PS1 and N64. Mario 64 had better, more detailed graphics than that. It's so plain! Just grass and some trees! And it's so blocky! This is far worse than Cruis'n. And yet in that forum everyone was saying that it was disgustingly awful. These graphics are far worse! Focus your slagging off in this direction!

As for the Mario comment - i think Joystiq made the comment too. To be honest, I think you're taking it as a slight against the game, when it isn't.
From my opinion it is an interesting piece that provokes discussion as to why, despite the Wii outselling the GC by far, Mario hasn't sold as well as expected in the land where the Japanese are mario-crazy.
It didn't say it wouldn't sell well in the future. It didn't say the game wasn't as good as previous, which is why the game isn't selling well. It just encouraged a healthy discussion about the game. Facts are facts and personally I thought it was an interesting story.
I am also in no doubt that the game will be great, and that it will continue to sell in droves.
Just think, if the 360 had come out and it sold quite slowly, people would be asking why. Or if Halo 3 had come out and sold at a slower pace than Halo 2, people would be asking why. I just dont understand why you seem to think it is a slight against the Wii when the same happens with a Mario game?
And as for the graphics thing, I don't think the Wii's lack of graphical horsepower is an excuse to create a game with crud graphics, which seems to be the way at the moment. A lot of devs seem to be creating games with worseor similar graphics to the ps2, which is unacceptable. and i'm sure you would agree.
Hell, even Halo 3 got slated for bad graphics, and PS3 seems to get it quite a lot (supposedly due to the machine being hard to get the best out of) so it really is not just aimed at Ninty.

The main problem with the mario galaxy story is that they 'forgot' to mention that 700,000 people pre-ordered it
Surely pre-orders count as opening day sales? Otherwise none of those 700,000 people were in Japan.
It might be a gaming mag/site, but they're still journalists. They can only report on what they see; they can't just make stuff up and print that. Sales were poor for Mario G, so they reported it. These graphics are awful, so they reported it. If there's nothing good to counter that, it's not CVG's fault.
Metroid Prime 3 should shame all the game devs that are producing graphics of this kind of standard. The Gamecube could produce some really great looking games and seeing as the Wii is supposedly 3 times faster etc. They cannot be allowed to put half bottomd graphics together when the machine is capable of much more.
MP3 is a superb looking game and gives Halo 3 a run for its money. So with this in mind how can graphics of the quality seen today be allowed to happen? The only reason I can see is the money men have stepped in and reduced the art departments budget.
Graphics = Far worse than Cruisin', which were godawful.
Imagine if you lived in Scotland, the game would get about 3 hours of daylight a day. How depressing, just reminding you that you live in a s**tty climate by imitating it on a game.
forgot about all those floods, heres me thinking that was england

haha, that would be brilliant, if you had the game in Gloucester a year ago, perhaps it would be less flying around, more doing a doggy paddle, followed by breast stroke, followed by front crawl!
Just one last thing that sprung to mind about biased writing on another site. It was on Next-Gen.biz and they were moaning at the time that Monster Hunter 3 was coming to the Wii. Was really lame and even the poster in those threads said the same. Funny how it just so happens its the sister site to this one...
Going back to Wii graphics, like i said: if 3rd party devs want to stop moaning about their games not selling well, then they should stop making crap like they do and push the Wii a little. Its not like its hard to do so they have no reason to moan. And its not like 3rd party games sell that much on the PS3 either. The 360 seems to be the only place where 3rd party games are doing fine. Having said that, Resident Evil 4 has shipped 1m units to retailers, meaning people are wanting it...
