Sony finally confirms God of War III

Company spokesperson slips it out...
Sony Computer Entertainment has finally (probably accidentally) confirmed a third God of War game for the PlayStation 3.

The news came in a statement to US site 1UP regarding the departure of God of War II director Cory Barlog, who it has been confirmed is leaving the company.

A Sony spokesperson stated, "We can confirm that Cory Barlog, game director for God of War II, is leaving the SCEA [Santa Monica] Studio and we are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise.

"Moving forward, we are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3."

There you are then, one of Sony's worst kept secrets seems to have slipped into the open. Hopefully minus Barlog's direction - and with former creative director David Jaffe since departed from SCEA, Sony can still pump out an awesome God of War sequel for PS3.

After the stunning second game we reckon the visuals alone in Kratos' PS3 outing will be enough to entertain our bloodlust. Let's wait and see how Chains of Olympus turns out...

We all know it's coming to the PS3 it's just a case of when rather than if! But without the lead developers there anymore it'll be interesting to see if it can live up to previous outings on the PS2.

Oooh, could this be The Title for the PS3? Will it be PS3 specific, or will there be a PS2 version?
csdaveuk on 7 Nov '07
Well it had to happen, they couldn't leave it where GoW2 finnished with such an abrupt ending. With the power of ps3 hopefully it will be just as awesome.

When you consider the game making talent within Sony (Ico, God of War, Gran Turismo) it's criminal to think they are getting whooped simply because of a lack of AAA games.

Why? If you have no AAA games actualy out there yet then surely its not worth buying until they do acualy get released?

Cant wait for GoW 3. The other 2 rank as some of my favourite games ever

Seconded.
csdaveuk on 7 Nov '07
That's entirely your loss then. You not being able to play the game doesn't exactly affect the rest of us, does it?

...but....but...i dont want to get a ps3 to play GOW3 >_<

Seconded.

I wouldnt worry about it. By the time it gets released it'll be 2009 or later.
and the ps3 will probably be Ł200 with quite a few worth while games already out.

lets just hope it's good.. we dont want another halo 3 now do we?

We've seen that on a number of occasions, if a key development player in a big franchise leaves, subsequent games do lose a bit of quality - and this franchise has now lost two.

I knew it was comming...

but im still Ecstatic!!!!!

don't forget david jaffe didn't have anything to do with GOW 2 and it was better than the 1st IMO whoever takes over knows they've got a huge task just to equal the quality of the 1st 2 games
dwhlufc on 7 Nov '07
Much prefered GoW 1 rather than 2.

Dont get me wrong 2 was still an amazing game, I just didnt think its story worked as well and there were too many human bosses.

A leader is someone who has a creative vision and leads a group of talented people to accomplish this vision..together they make something great!

A leader is like the head on your body.. cut it off and the body really doesn't know what to do. Pretending that the body remained a live, it might repeat the same thing's it did before... but come up with nothing new at all.

That being said... I hope the Third G.O.W. is better than the first two games, or at least on par...
