Infinity Ward is working at full steam to fix the crippled online servers for the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4, after they were "slammed" by the rush of players.
The incredible Call of Duty 4 hit shelves last Friday, and the high traffic on the online gameplay servers has caused irate gamers to experience a string of connection errors over the weekend.
Infinity Ward says "the server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night" to fix the online functionality of the game.
The problem is apparently not with the game code but just the servers, and so a patch won't be necessary.
"The only real issue is that the servers we're getting hit really hard, especially with the launch in Europe doubling that traffic, just something that requires optimising on the server side and we've been working with the PSN COD4 Server team from the moment it started having issues assisting any way we can to help them get them up to speed faster."
In an update this morning, Infinity Ward said they're "upgrading all server hardware as well as dedicated an individual database to each functionality to improve performance and handle the traffic hitting the servers. (i.e. Database for Matchmaking, Database for Leaderboards," which should lead to smoother play for eager gamers.
"During this upgrade you may still receive the 'Downloading Game Settings' message, but it is temporary, in the sense of just let it download and you will eventually drop into a lobby and play just fine," it explains.
"Remember, this is just short term, eventually once everything is upgraded you won't be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all. However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby."
I guess its understandable really, I mean the demand was massive following such great reviews for all versions, bet infinity are well chuffed! what a succesful game.
been playing all weekend with only one slow lobby. the worst thing though was by ps3 60 gig stopped reading disks. pc world swapped it no problem but i could only get the 40gig model they did knock off 50 quid, left me with 2 games and a new joystick i only want it for games so this was ok and i played cod4 all weekend. great stuff.
ive not had one single problem on the 360 all weekend with getting games whats p**sing me off is being dropped half way into the game because the host quit, come on infinity sort this out please
the only problems i've had on the PS3 version is that it takes bout 30 seconds to find a server and i've only had a connection problem 3 times since friday so its all good lol . and i hate it when the host quits just before the game is about to start oooooooo that gets me annoyed last night it happend 6 times in a row n a went mental lol. apart from all this its a fantastic game !!!!!!!!!!!!1

XBOX live.....you dont get what you pay for... lol...anyhow ive been getting loads of use outta the PS3 version this weekend with me mates...and it has been a bloody pain! although it was quite obvious they'd have probs with the amount of people all of a sudden...ah well,heres to when its all nice and fixed (and free hollywood ) cause its a mint game!!!

But a real world friend was moaning about the connection issues on his 360. I might just wait a bit longer...
I've not really had an issue with my PS3 version of the game - it might take about a minute to find a game - but once it's on it's fantastic. The best game I've played this year... Beats Halo 3 hands down... Lets hope Assassins Creed is as good as it looks...
one could almost think they didnt expect the uptake of the ps3 version to be so great and didnt properly plan/build the server infrastructure to match. its just a wild thought
The servers seem to be getting better every day, although it still really hard to get a match especially after 5 o clock ( i think it's when the americans start coming on) mid game i always seem to lose connection, it says my connection is really low, although i've never had a problem before for any other online game, i reckon it's just bad timing

when it comes to decideing what version you want,remember,apart from achievements,they are both exactly the same,when the problems are sorted with PS3,then it should be just as good and smooth as 360(which is the version i have)...but what i think really seals the deal on which version to have...is the controllers....which is the best for you?....sixaxis or whatever the 360 pad is called?
also,i have problems with my bluetooth headset on online games with PS3(i just dont like it)....but i know that isnt an issue with everyone

Get it for the system which you know you have most friends on that will also be getting the title, also maybe depending on which controller you prefer...
the problem i have is i build my rank up, but when i restart it says am ranked 6th and i have 2 restart it the game a few times before it gets back 2 my normal rank, any1 having this problem? this is on the ps3!

ya im having this problem since yesterday,i was on level 47 and when i went back on to play i was 37 and i lost all my new weapons, this happened to my friend he was on level 55 he has being play for a week or so and now hes back to level 1.
