PES and Metal Gear Solid house Konami has revealed that it believes no one format will dominate the playing field this generation, after the PS2 took the lead in almost every territory last time around.
With sales of over 120 million consoles worldwide, Xbox and Gamecube were left to fight for the PS2's scraps. According to Konami, it'll be a lot fairer split this time around.
"Previously, a single home gaming platform [PS2] was the market leader worldwide, but that pattern has changed," the company said in a statement.
"Whichever platform best caters to users' preferences in a particular country or region, in terms of the games available to be played on it, is now the one that will dominate the local market."
With the Wii's lead looking increasingly smaller over the growing 360 and PS3 userbase, we can see what they're on about. Does this mean we'll get MGS4 on Xbox, though?
Konami thinks there'll be no big leader in the consolemarket? Well it's practically confirmed then, this DEFINITELY means MGS4 on the 360! Probably Wii too!
Probably at some stage yea, but I'm sure it will be a fair bit after the PS3 one, if it did. Sony should really buy the rights to avoid that happening though.
The closer the competition between the gaming platforms, the better it is for us gamers.
Truer words were never spoken. It means all 3 will be trying to get as much games on their system as possible to attract potential customers as well as keep the current ones.
Yep as long as Sony keep improving on the PSN then MS will continue to improve Live. & the more innovative Nintendo get, the more developers have to find new ways to excite gamers. Its now just a matter of choice, it’s a very exciting time to be a gamer.
With the Wii's lead looking increasingly smaller over the growing 360 and PS3 userbase,
What a strange thing to say. The Wii's lead is still getting bigger and bigger. Yeah, sales are slowing down, but the other two won't be able to catch up until they actually start outselling it.
One more well-timed price drop for the 360, though, and it'll probably surpass it again. Hell, in the USA it already has.
