As early adopters of Konami's latest footy sim will be painfully aware, the PS3 version of PES 08 has got some serious issues with online gameplay, but Konami says it will finally be delivering the anticipated remedy this coming Monday.
Crippling lag plagues the game's online mode, making for an occasionally unplayable game.
A Konami spokesperson has confirmed that the patch that will fix these issues will be made available on November 19.
Konami has "set a deadline of Monday 19th November to get this to the public, as we are aware there are a lot of gamers out there that are avoiding a massive part of the game because of the online issues.
"I would say to ALL PES fans to be patient with us while we rectify the problems," the firm goes on to plead on the PES forums. "Please be assured that we are working very hard to fix these problems. We hope that everyone will soon be enjoying the online aspect of the game which people will love playing with their friends and fellow gamers,"
In other words, don't throw the PES disc in the bin and buy a fully-working copy of FIFA 08 just yet.
Test your damned software before selling it. Just sodding test it! I'm a dyed in the wool Pro Evo player, just a smidgen away from being a raving fanboy but next year I'm going to mark FIFA on my calendar as well.
All this talk about the PS3 version worries me, too. If they fix the PS3 one and leave the PC one swinging in the breeze, I will have to find a rifle and a clock tower.
I'd give them a lot more space if it hadn't happened last year as well. It's shaping up to be a yearly event. And since they took away our Direct Connect option, we're at their mercy.
I don't like the lack of reference to the 360 version all of the time - did they forget they ever released it?
They should be apologising by giving us all £10 back for buying a sub-standard game for the second year in a row on the 360.
They clearly knew these problems were in there in the first place, and didn't bother to install them - I'm sure a non-gamer testing it would know there was something seriously wrong with the game, but they released it anyway, fully aware of what they had. The fact that they didn't rush to get to work on releasing the patch like other companies have recently says it all.

Yet you're gonna still buy it next year aren't you?
does anyone know if the patch will fix the framerate / slowdown issues on single player too please? or has a fix already been implemented for that? i got pes 08 the morning it was released, i took it back the next morning because i was so let down. but i always said id buy it again if they released a patch to fix it, so im hoping it has.

I'm assuming it does, if not they really took the mick.

This would seem to suggest that the patch is limited to the online issues which, if true, is disgraceful.
They should be concentrating on fixing the actual game first.
hmmm, i agree, if they fix it online, but its still w*nk in single player then the could have a customer mutiny on their hands lol. mind you, even though it says online problems, im assuming some of the online problems are slow down and drops in frame rate. so surely you cant stop the smoke without putting out the fire. ie the single player will have to be fixed to resolve some of the online issues

I hope you're right. I was playing PES2008 again last night and everytime I started to get into it and find my rhythm the slowdown would kick in and break the spell.

Don't worry it will be fixed in PES2009
Seriously though they must be working on fixing the single player issue as well. I saw it running on my friend's 360. Apart from the replay mode it ran fine. Haven't seen the PS3 one in action but from what I've heard on both these frame rate issues need to be patched.
Even with these issues it's still high in the charts though
I expect that this is more through the weight of the series' reputation from previous versions than a reflection of the quality of PES2008.
Don't get me wrong, there is a great game in there but on a title that lives and dies on its gameplay the slowdown is as unforgiveable as it is inexplicable.
PES home is ps we have brought it in larger numners than xbox fifa fanboys!!!!!!!!!! therfore we deserve fix first!!!!!!!! For 2009 konami will concentrate on us cos xbox is fifa fanboy land!!!!!!!!!
its 3.30 pm monday and the update wasnt there an hour ago :0( can psm3 or anyone offer a likely time please as i'll get off cod4 and try to get pes updated...
