The Darkness sequel "just a rumour", says 2K

Comic publisher slips up - direct sequel apparently in the works - "just a rumour" decrees 2K
An employee of comic publisher Top Cow Comics - which produces The Darkness comic series - has apparently let slip that a sequel to The Darkness game is in the works.

According to reports, developer Starbreeze Studios is currently hard at work on the second moody horror quest, said to be for Xbox 360 and PS3, for a late 2008/early 2009 release.

No further specifics were leaked, although the sequel is said to follow on directly from events in the first bloodbath of a game, which we enjoyed very much.

2K Games dismisses the chatter as "just a rumour", refusing to comment further on the matter.

Would be great if true. I really enjoyed the original and thought the single player was one of the best in console FPS to date. Sadly it was too short and the tacked on multi-player was a waste of time.

The Darkness is a great game brilliantly violent and the ability to summon Darklings and such made it original. A sequel would be welcomed with open tentacles!

For all the sub-par games around nowadays that get automatic sequels year after year, it would be a crime if a quality game like this was not given a good follow-up.

They definitely left the original open for a sequel. Left me wanting to know a bit more. There's also more than enough source material to work with. Brilliant comic, brilliant game.

Players were introduced to the real Darkness powers so late into the game, and they were only via cutscenes! Otherwise the darkness powers were a bit weak compared to the comic books (which I highly recommend by the way). Still a good game though, and excellent voiceovers!

Hopefully Witchblade will make a cameo in the sequel!

If they make a sequel I hope that it is genuinely innovative. I was really disappointed with the original. The Darkness powers were badly under-used and not as effective as guns and the Darklings were little use in most situatons.

I really enjoyed the first one, it had me hooked all the way to the end. I just hope they build on the first one.

I hope they don't make a sequel for the very reason that the first one was a strong entity in itself. Doing another graphic novel character would be a much better idea. Could give the company a lot of security if it did great graphic novel to game creations.
