You're teeing up a sweet bow shot, about to nail some dude right in the face with an arrow when one of your team-mates approaches and puts a round into your face? Why? Because that's what the Grab Bag achievement wants you to do.
The Grab Bag achievement gives 10 points to a player if they "Kill at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match". We've never heard of anything so ridiculous.
Online achievements are bad enough as it is ("Can you guys get in a car and let me shoot you with a rocket launcher please?" "Okay.") But an achievement that actually rewards achievement point whores to kill fellow team mates is surely a one-way road to ruin.
NeoGAF poster, Bishoptl, also a known spokesperson for Disney Interactive, defended online achievements.
"Grab Bag aside, is achievement whoring that prevalent in multiplayer?", he asked.
"The Live games that I do play online don't have much of that occurring at all," he said. He will see it occurring when a team mate frags his ass in Turok.
Online achievements are lame. End of. If a game doesn't feel rewarding online thats the developers issue. Sticking in some achievements is just lazy. COD4 is great proof of a well thought out and structured online system.
i think i agree with others here that online achievements can be flawed... sure not every1 is a sad 'achievement whore', but, the ones that are manage to annoy 'normal' gamers with their constant moaning for you help them get achievements, or them not playing a game properly with the rest of their team and just selfishly going for the achievements they need (want). i hate them all
having an achievement that encourages team killing is so crap its almost funny, its just like having an achievement for getting your entire team to give you a bad player review!!! its basically an achievement for being an obnoxious asshole.
Man, playing online is just barely tolerable at the moment, but making acheivements like this is going to make online gaming even more frustrating. A very bad idea that i hope no-one else emulates. And they have just lost 1 sale of the game here.
Totally disagree with people here saying online achievements are lame. They definetely add an extra element to a game, sure COD4 doesn't need it but it does add something and most people agree, it feels good when you get an achievement. But the cretin that thought up this cheat should of been laughed at when it was discussed not had it implemented in the game! But I am all for minus points for doing s**t like that! DOA online had 0 point achievements for when you lost 5 or 10 games in a row, you would see an achievement pop up and feel quite proud until you saw what it was for!
Online games can be ruined by acheivements like this, Chromehounds is a game I play alot and the leaderboards are just full of boosting morons wanting an extra 10 GP's.
Halo let you boot a fellow teamate if they killed you, this guy obviously never plays online, it's full of idiots who will abuse this acheivement and make the online so crap it's unreal.
Am I the only one who takes great glee in taking out someone SPECIFICALLY because they asked for people to gather together to get an achievement? Their little cries of absolute disgust and distress are music to my ears.
My reply is that it's a game and play it how it's meant to be played.
Seriously now, who was really going to buy this game let alone play it online regulary enough to be effected by this?
Well considering the track record of Turok games from about number 2 onwards, probably not that many people admittedly. Really its just an example of achievments being taken too far into the realms of stupidity (and I'm not that keen on online ones anyway, encourages the idiots a bit too much).
Stupid idea, Teamkilling is one of the most despicable practices out there, mainly due to the idiots who think it is acceptable. At least games like Halo make sure there is no benefit to team killing as it will affect your rank and you get the option to kick a player being a pain.
In what crazy world should you be rewarded for team killing? I suppose it is an American game so they do have a friendly fire mentality.
It's definitely a console mentality. I play TF2 (which has achievements in) on the PC quite frequently and have never heard anyone ask for help in getting an achievement.
Still, stupid achievement for sure, they're just asking for 12 year old, pre pubescent American boys to come on their servers and shoot team mates in the head.
