Sony has flat-out denied to CVG that it is working on the heavily-rumoured PlayStation Phone, after fresh speculation did the rounds yesterday.
Rumours were refreshed yesterday when Sony Computer Entertainment's co-chief operating officer, Jim Ryan, reportedly told The Economic Times that convergence between Sony's PlayStation and Ericsson arms to create a portable gaming phone was "definitely plausible". But Sony tells CVG he was misquoted.
"Jim Ryan was in fact misquoted by the Economic Times of India about this issue," a Sony UK spokesperson told us moments ago, adding, "We do have talks with other arms of the Sony family about various topics but I can confirm we are not currently working together on the creation of a PlayStation Phone."
So let that be the end of those rumours... until another Sony big wig says it'd be a brilliant idea.
What is everyone's obsession with having to have one device that does everything? I have no problems having a phone (for phone calls!) seperate from my DS (for games!).
You know why? The more stuff your phone / console / personal organiser / MP3 player / kitchen sink does, the less your batteries will last. Then if you suddenly NEED your phone for an emergency, you're out of luck because you spent all day playing games and listening to music.
We all used to want smaller phones so they were easy to carry. Now we want them with massive screens so we can play games too? And they have to have external speakers so we can bug people on buses and trains by playing our music at them.
I can't wait until all of these people end up getting killed off because they can't call an ambulance because their batteries are flat. I bet their families will try and sue the manufacturer's too.

What a great post. I agree with everything, I even struggle to take more than 2 photos a year on my phone. Does my tree in when people have these mulit-phones, its definitely to impress and increase the size of their virtual c**k.
Oh, and what about the "hey, look at me, i've got a £300 phone - isn't it shiny" biff! bash! boff!?! Gone.
Hey Hey Hey wait a Minute! I'm usually the Sony hater around here! And this time I say Sony is really on to something big. Of course they are lying but technically if you read the words they are not actually saying NO. They are insinuating it! As long as they just make the PSP also able to be a phone without changing the screen sive or making the button placements ackward they will sell more systems than ANY previous handheld ever! Including the gameboy, and gameboy advanced. Heck even I would have to buy one. Just think of it you could get a game machine that also plays movies, and music, and umds instead of just being a music/phone and it would be cheap! In fact if they add the ability to recieve off of tv airwaves its over! My prediction if they dont change the price and just add these abilities 500Million sold easily(unless a lot of them catch on fire lol). The cell phone companies will see to that! They will offer a free PSP for a one to two year service contact, and actually be saving more than they do on currect phone offers! Unless nintendo is reading a stand counter check mate! Sony will own the hand held market and Microsoft will own the Console market.
