Man returns gutted 360, gets money back

So crazy it just had to work...
Game shop employees pay attention; a North American store employee has shared pictures of an incident in his store, where a cheeky customer received a full refund for an Xbox 360... minus its innards.

The naughty swindler returned the plastic shell of the console with a weighty medical book stuffed inside. "There were some VGA cables for a computer and an old parallel printer cable," says the game shop employee, who apparently wasn't responsible for the refund.

"The only thing that actually belonged in the box was the headset and the ethernet cable," he says in this forum post.

The fooled employee explains: "the guy that was working that morning was by himself, so we cannot under any circumstances leave the dept. So the girls that work at the service desk were told to see if everything is in the box, and approve," he continues. "Obviously they did not do a very good job." Girls eh?

There's one cheeky git out there then with a naked Xbox 360 and $400 USD in cash, unfortunately the forum user doesn't name the store at which he works, so we're going to have to keep our consoles clothed for the time being.

Tut. The naughty monkey. I'll not do it to my 360 but if I had a PS3...

Well, it is the staff's fault - They'd check the xbox 360 first.

I suppose shopkeepers are used to the 360's going back so don't bother checking it anymore.

How long til the photos of the new and "improved" caseless 360 appear on the web, huh? Smile

It might improve airflow, but can you imagine the noise?

Happens all the time at toys'r'us, people take the exclusive action figure from a multipack, replace it with some other cheap crappy figure and get a refund, and the staff just put it back on the shelf!!

Yep they most probably are as the 360 has more than 1 title worth playing it's bound to get more use. Notice they didnt try it on a PS3 most probably because that store hadn't sold many and could identify everyone who had purchased one. Razz

"oh..er.. them bits must have fallen out on my way over here!?... yeah... thats it. I'll go find them"

Then he turns and legs it.

Reminds me of the time when the launch DC i had, started to play up and freeze and wouldnt load games, the warrenty had ran out a long time before, so i went into game, bought a brand new one when they were down to 50 quid, took it home, took it out, made sure it worked, put in my old non working console, and then took back to same game shop on the same day and got a full refund for a console that wasnt working anymore, while still having a brand new working DC in the house to play again, also i swapped my duff joypad at the same time.

I wonder what happens when the caseless 360 still overheats and causes a RRoD problem!
The_Hun1 on 26 Nov '07
That's obvious "The_Hun1", he buys a PS3 and waits for some decent games and an unbroken firmware update, hey everyone has a dream ffs!

I thought I did well swapping my old white pad for a nice new black one, getting an extra HDMI cable and headset, when I exchanged my dodgy Elite.

This guy took it to whole new levels!!
g2dat on 26 Nov '07

i did! we have two 360's. mine the door was constantly popping out. so when i got my sons for his birthday i took the dodgy one back saying it was faulty and they swapped it for a new one. Very Happy
roger4000 on 27 Nov '07
I did something similar to this. I tried to chip my mates xbox, but ended up breaking it.
SO we bought a new one from tesco. Next day we took the broken one back with the new reciept, said it was an unwanted gift and got a full refund.

They probably just put it back in stock and sold it to some poor bastard the next day.
