In both an exciting and unexpected piece of news, its been revealed that N64 effort Pokémon Snap will have new Wii functionality worked into its release on Virtual Console.
According to Dengeki Japan, The VC version of the on-rails snapper will have a new function over the N64 original. You'll be able to post photographs taken in the game on your Wii message board and send them to friends over the internet.
Not the most riveting feature on its own, but that fact that this confirms Nintendo is willing to add new features to its Virtual Console classics is incredibly exciting.
Previously the Nintendo line has been that it wants to keep the retro releases identical to their original console release, which has also been the excuse for dodgy framerates and borders on the PAL VC.
Potentially, this change of stance makes online GoldenEye, Pokémon Stadium net trades and SNES pointer integration all a brilliant possibility. Even an online leaderboard for Super Mario Kart would be a dream come true.
Pokémon Snap will be released on the Japanese Virtual Console on Decmber 4 (that's Tuesday). Let's hope it's the first of many Wii functionality addition to VC games.
first game i thought about when i read the the title SUPER MARIO KART, greatest kart racing game ever and not one of the other mario karts have come close to matching it
I think that you're getting a bit ahead of yourselves here CVG... all this would take is one on-screen option that says "post to message board". The game won't realy connect to the internet, nor will it require much changing of the original code.
But regardless, this kind of thing really gets on my nerves! Nintendo keep stressing that Virtual Console releases will be identical to the original game in each territory, but they've already gone back on their word.
TurboGrafx16 was never released in Europe. There is no rumble feature for any games, even when using the Gamecube controller. All N64 games have been upscaled (a good thing in most cases). Mario Kart 64 has had the Ghost Data feature disabled, becuase there is no memory expansion in the controller (which is ridiclous, can't it just use the Wii's internal memory?)
And several other thing that I can't actually remember now. These may be minor complaints, but it just annoys me because Nintendo completely refuses to add other features, such as having the games run in 60Hz, and having online features.
That would be the reason why there is no release for Goldeneye on the VC, its not owned by Nintendo, they need to get the rights and pay royalties etc. Not that they don't have the money to do that at the moment, but nintendo still don't want to write out such a large cheque just yet, they'd rather have the company ask nintendo to host the game so that they can get away with paying less in royalties etc. Personally I think goldeneye if its released on VC will taint its memory, despite raking in huge amounts of cash and giving the virtual console a better library. I wonder if Nintendo will ever have the virtual console with entire back catalogues of games for systems. Wishful thinking I know, and some games such as Pokémon stadium would be hard to implement in the same way, but you never know. Really the VC needs to have games priced on a scale based on various aspects of the game rather than the console its on. For example Yoshi story on N64 should be sold for less than Wonder Boy in Monster World for Sega because the game is so much shorter. THats my opinion at least.
Save pointless pictures of the worst N64 game ever.
Woo!
I completely disagree with you.Pokemon Snap was incredibly inventive, addictive and boasted fantastic presentation; as well as improving peoples camera skills it fitted seamlessly within the pokemon universe. A true classic, with it's only flaw being it's length.
