If you've turned on your Xbox 360 this morning you'll notice that, after a short update, the dashboard's moving a bit quicker and Xbox Originals have been introduced to the 360 online service.
It's what Xbox Live Marketplace has been leading up to all along - full, unspoilt Xbox 1 games up for download and playback on the white box, meaning at the very least you won't have to mess around looking for discs any longer.
Because 1200 Microsoft Points (about 10 quid) is still a lot in English money, we've taken a trip down memory lane and sourced reviews for our picks of the service's seven launch games. It should help your purchasing decisions, though you know you're going to pay Microsoft yet again for Halo anyway.
Halo
"Halo proves that consoles can finally kick it with the PC crowd in this neck of the woods, offering an awesome blend of solo and multiplayer co-op magic."
"There are stunning details and sweet gameplay touches that'll impress you from start to finish... It's details like these, and the fact that the gameplay feels so fantastically organic and fluid, that make Halo a killer launch game for Xbox"
"Psychonauts is dazzlingly clever and way left of field - if you want a platformer where collecting 99 gems for an extra life actually means drilling through someone's psyche to their darkest secrets, you're in for a treat. Bizarre, but beautiful."
"Set in a futuristic dark metropolis, this Brit-made game is a manic four-player experience. Imagine TV show Gladiators set in Power Stone-esque arenas, and populated by futuristic street-chic dudes and dudettes of a Jet Set vibe and you get the picture. Sort of."
"Fahrenheit isn't like other Xbox games. It's not a driving game (though there are cars in it), or a shooter (but there are quite a few guns scattered around). It's not even a sports game (although, that said, you do get to play basketball at one point). If anything, it's the archetypal black sheep of Xbox gaming.
But different can be good, or in this case, excellent. It's a horror game, a thriller, a drama, a dark romance with a touch of humour - it's all that and more."
"Fable is a traditional role-playing game. You play a young boy living in the fantasy world of Albion as he grows up to become a prophetic hero of legend. So far, so predictable, but it's how you get there that makes Fable so special.
Essentially, you're given free reign to develop your character any way you like. Fight monsters, cast spells, buy a house and rent it out, enter a bare knuckle boxing tournament, get married, get married again (only this time to a man)."
Mmmmm Got everything on that list bar Psychonauts, heard it was worth a look though so will prob be getting it. How big are theses games??
I only have the 20gig HDD, so it might be time to look into upgrading, tbh though Ł129 for the 120gig is robbery, actually its worse than robbery. I would liken it to being robbed and then getting home to find they had done your house over as well.
Why would you want to pay 10 quid for any of these you could just nip to your local gamestation like i did and buy 3 for a tenner i cant see the point and if you look at the description on marketplace some of them dont even work properly
How about the people who didnt have an original Xbox & want to play some of these, also games like Psychonauts & Fahrenheit arent that cheap or easy to find
It's all well and good saying "buy the originals", but whenever I go to a games store all I ever see is case upon case of the usual crap.
Fifa.
NFS.
...and some totally mystifying s**t like Pippa Funnel, Bratz or Mary-Kate and Ashley.
How the f**k did they make a game for Mary-Kate and chuffin-Ashley anyway?
Anyhoo... very much interested in Psychonauts.
As for space, why should that be a problem?
If you run out of memory you won't be charged for anything you've already paid for, so as long as you don't suffer from a slow connection or DL limits then I can't see anything wrong with deleting stuff for a download another time.
halo's graphics have really aged, still an awesome game tho
Yeah I put the disk version in the other day after playing GOW and it looked awful. In my memory it seemed a lot better but I guess at the time it was impressive
Psychonauts in the only one i'd really recommend there. If i didn't have it on the pc(better at the higher res), i'd get it for the xbox. Fahrenheit was fun as well, but yet again i have it on pc.
Well I tried downloading Crimson Skies last night... all night. About 10 ten times. I left it on over night downloading in the background and guess what? It hadn't worked again.
Now my internet connection is 8MB and is generally very fast. I've downloaded 1GB demos of live before now in around 20 minutes or so I think.
Now I appreciate that these games are massive, and that every man and his dog was probably trying to download them last night, but this sucks. I've paid 1200 points for nothing so far. It tells me I've already downloaded it before and would I want to again. Well of course! If I haven't got the sodding thing to start with. Not an impressive start imo.
While entitled to your opinion, you make yourself look a little daft if in the same breath you slag on Halo but then praise Fusion Frenzy.Frenzy is fun enough but unlike Halo it is disliked by most reviewers.
Crimson Skies and Psychonauts are pretty classy and not to be missed this time round.
Played Halo on original Xbox last night and the graphics hold up very well still though maybe not quite as much when viewed in a higher resolution
Took a very long time to download Pschonaughts (but i suppose everyone ws dong it s fair enogugh)and i must say i thought it was excellent. The same with Crimson SKies. Neither f these could i Buy in shops near me and am looking at 11 quid with p&p on ebay. They are well worth the pennies (esp compared to Lumines and Bankshot Billiards on XBLA)

The difference being Fusion Frenzy is underated in my opinion. With 4 players, some drinks and a pizza it's a mindless and fun game.
Halo was played during these sessions as well mind you but it didn't deserve a 9, even when it first came out! I went out and bought an Xbox but it wasn't for Halo. It was for PGR and Rallisport Challenge. Both titles also liked by reviewers but more importantly they were liked by me.
What was your point? A reviewer likes it so I look daft by not agreeing? I'm a little lost mate, you like everything with "xx magazine Gold Award" stamped next to it?
On this download Halo 1, are all the maps in the game jerky, as I've put my original Xbox game into my 360 and it wasn't pretty. I know it worked well at 50hz on the original Xbox, just wondering have they given us the US 60hz version of the game.
