A discrepancy between two versions of the official Deus Ex 3 teaser trailer could have let slip the biggest reveal to date on the sequel.
The scene from the trailer with the year date "2027" easily seen
In one version of the trailer, a scene has had the date "2027" removed, while it remains in the same scene in a second version.
The evidence is on display in the two screenshots you can see on this page, which were taken by PC Zone magazine's editor who noticed the discrepancy while gobbling down every Deus Ex 3 info morsel currently available.

It's led to us speculating that the sequel actually acts as a prequel and could well be set prior to the original Deus Ex (which was set in the 2050s. Invisible War was set 20 years on from the first game).
Did Eidos spot the slip and move quickly to eradicate evidence to protect a plot secret? Could be.
So far the publisher's said very little about Deus Ex 3.
OK, I've seen the trailer, and surely the only way to spot this would be to go through it frame by frame? What a busy life an editor must have if he can find the time to do this
Or it could be that the particular scene from the trailer was set in 2027 but the game itself may not be. Could be a flashback in the game for all we know.

Well, a prequal could well be interesting, although surely then augs and the like won't actually be around? Since Paul and JC were essentially the first creations of the augmentation project. I guess we could end up playing as a Gunther/Anna style mech, but they seem so inferior to nano-augmented agents. Unless of course they're planning a rather large retcon to keep all the fans foaming at the mouth
Still, conisdering all of DX:IWs endings amounted to screwing up the world in a different and unique way I guess it would have been a little tough to tie them all back into one single plot thread.
