Swap Star points for Wii Points!

Finally, swap Star points for Wii Points and other worthwhile goodies on new Nintendo website
Nintendo has relaunched its official UK website and as well as a flashy new look, the Stars Catalogue is, at long last, actually worth your time.

Gone are the shite wallpapers and pointless ringtones. The now-named Club Nintendo section lets you swap your hard earned Star points for good gifts like Nintendo keyrings, a sweet gold Zelda statue and other Nintendo memorabilia.

Best of all, if you don't want any Nintendo tat, you can simply swap your Star points for Wii points in the Wii Points shop, to then spend on Virtual Console games. Sweet.

Nintendo says: "The new site endeavours to make detailed Nintendo product information accessible to a wider audience, with clear access to information about Nintendo's current hardware and software, as well as providing a rich archive of gaming experiences past."

Other improvements include "an improved search engine will help visitors find games of their interest more easily, while special interest sites such as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and Touch! Generations can be directly accessed." And Nintendo has overhauled the support section, too.

You can find the new site over on Nintendo.co.uk.

Good luck with getting on their right now though - it appears to be experience a few teething problems. We're sure it'll be fully up and running soon.

Great news!
Only annoying thing is I can't register a game...
Anyone else encountering the problem?
After filling out the security code field and the registration code field I just get a 404 not found page...
oblivion252 on 7 Dec '07
finaly!! i knew those star points would come in handy some time! they took their time though.
scfruity on 7 Dec '07
The site still appears to be a little funky. Some of the links don't work at all (at the moment the Stars>Points page no longer seems to exist).

But it's not really surprising considering the amount of traffic it'll be getting right now. I imagine a lot of people have games that they've wanted to register since the old site came down.
Dajmin on 7 Dec '07
It is going to be awesome.
But it's a bit costly...
oblivion252 on 7 Dec '07
Never used this before as the rewards were tat. Wii Points is anotheer story. I managed to register my Wii and 5 games. But can't redeem stars. How much is it for wii points does anyone know or was able to login? Probably 50 million stars for 500 wii points.....
ciaran211 on 7 Dec '07
4000 stars for 1000 wii points Shocked which works out as about 16 games.
darren_mccoy on 7 Dec '07
Got just over 7k - zelda statue sound sweet - dont want wii points
dandoc2 on 7 Dec '07
Has anyone else actually managed to get onto the site? For me it just still says "We'll be back soon!". I still can't wait what the new site looks like, and hope I can get some of that sweet sounding memorabilia before it all goes >.>

Especially the golden Zelda statue, which I'm guessing by the sounds of it is the same one that has appeared twice now in ONM competitions Very Happy
dark_gamer on 7 Dec '07
Sounds cool. I have over 4000 Star Points at the moment! Through the Gamecube, Gamecube games and the DS plus games. But I don't own a Wii at the moment, so can't spend them on games. Might save them up for when I do get a Wii.
ginsin on 7 Dec '07
Currently waiting for my confirmation email...

Boo Nintendo. Boo. I should have enough by 2012 to get an NES game. But it is a welcome addition nonetheless.
ciaran211 on 7 Dec '07
Just a thought, but if you register games that your friends have (who have no interest in downloading games for VC or redeeming points) does it recognise the fact that you have 2 Zelda's registered for example? I suppose I could have sold it and bought another copy? My friend has plenty games but never uses Wii points.
ciaran211 on 7 Dec '07
I don't see why they'd have a problem with that. Lots of collectors buy 2 copies of things, and Ninty gets the money anyway.
Dajmin on 7 Dec '07
Darn it!
All ready to go then... shop is currently closed for maintenence! Mad

Ah well I'll try at 8ish.
oblivion252 on 7 Dec '07

I suppose so. I must steal all those vouchers from my friends so.

Think I heard you can't register two copies of a game. Not 100% sure though.
DaRockwilder1 on 7 Dec '07
You can't register two copies unfortunately - I work in Gamestop and I "borrowed" a few Twilight Princess star points a while back from our pre-owned copies. Wouldn't let me register them. Bung.
Cianski on 7 Dec '07
You can't, I tried in the old days with GC games and it wouldn't let you register more than one exact ame game. Sad You could probably register two similar games though, like the GC and Wii version of Twilight Princess.
Scorched on 7 Dec '07
NOOO! Finally managed to get onto the site but should of guessed the golden Zelda figurine would of been sold out Crying or Very sad and everything else on there just seems worthless compared to it, so even as much as I'd want to get anyway probably gonna spend my points on Wii points. Can only just assume you'll now be able to find those things on eBay for a lot of money.
dark_gamer on 7 Dec '07
Site is still dodgy. Why didn't they finish it before putting it online?
evilfoxhound on 7 Dec '07
can i still use my 7000 points i had on the old site?

yes you can.
chrising16 on 7 Dec '07
Site is still dodgy. Why didn't they finish it before putting it online?

It's due to excessive traffic. They also mentioned on the boards at vc-reviews.com that you only get vouchers with first party games? Surely not true? So if I buy Zack and Wiki/Resident Evil 4 I can't register it?
ciaran211 on 7 Dec '07
Hmm, it also seems you cant get star points from buying VC games, which on the old website they said was an upcoming feature Sad
chrising16 on 7 Dec '07
Can't be true, I got my points when I registered Resi 4.

Site has been taken down it would seem, and the shop is closed at the moment. Ah well, wait until it opens again and I'll get me some points so I can get Super Metroid. Smile

Knew saving them up would come in handy someday. Razz

4000 stars for 1000 points!! I knew it was going to be high, but not that high. Sad better than nothing though.

You do only get vouchers with nintendo made games or those which are closely affiliated with nintendo. I got one with Trauma Centre but not Red Steel, for example.
jimbo835 on 7 Dec '07
I just did the math on the german prices:

If you buy Wii-Games for 400€ you get Wii-Points worth 5€.

DAMN site is begining to do my head in.
10 times its crashed on me lol
It takes age's to get on, then buggers up on you half way through registering a product.
Ack well, there goes the plan for the golden statue.
Maybe Ninty KNOW that I have over 60 products to register and just dont want me to be greedy Wink

Even though I cant get on just now, Im still happy that Im going to getting free stuff.
Cheers Ninty Smile ............. eventually.

I managed to get back into the site and just noticed this under my stars balance:

Stars expiring at the end of December 2007:1250

Does this mean we'll lose a certain amount of stars each month unless we buy something? Because I'm sure there was nothing about stars 'expiring' on the old site. Shocked

CRAP! I just noticed that now on mine too. I'm set to lose 1500 points if I don't use them before the end of this month. Well that f'in sucks! Evil or Very Mad
Venom_uk on 7 Dec '07
I seem to have found out how it works in the website support section:
Please note that Stars automatically expire after a period of 24 months.

So they only expire if it's been two years since you registered them and you haven't used them. You know what this means? We should only register our games when we want to buy something. Razz
Giga Bowser on 7 Dec '07

We all got an email from them a while back that stated this. Since then I have around 1500 unregistered stars waiting to be added to my 11k star count.

I will be really p**sed if any of my stars expire Mad

Just checked my account 250 stars expire at the end of 2007
dilated2001 on 7 Dec '07
Having been on the old forums of NoE i can speak for all those now without a forum by saying about bloody time, it should have been out about 364 days ago

There was actually a clause on the original site in the Ts & Cs that allowed points to expire 12 months at Nintendo's discretion
Phat_Matty on 7 Dec '07
Well after waiting sine tuesday (when i got my wii) fo this site to come up, now I have to wait an indefinite time before I can even register my crap. Sigh being an european nintendo customer, I should have been expecting this.
What's also annoying is tha I have to wait another week before I can get back to london to my DS game cases and boxes so I can register that stuff as registering my Wii stuff will only get me 2000 star points. Was really looking forward to downloading something like paper mario for the N64 today =(
darkjb9 on 7 Dec '07
I just Converted all my Star Points and now I have 7500 Wii Points!!! Very Happy
seancuk23 on 8 Dec '07
I had over 10,000 Star points about 2 years ago, that was when I used to browse the Star Catalogue regularly, ended up bagging myself a black GameCube for 10,000. It came in handy as my launch purple cube wasn't reading discs properly.
roynluc on 8 Dec '07
i just went on now to swap my stars for points as i couldnt get on last night

and all the 1000 and 500 point cards have gone already...they only have 100 point cards and i think 300 point cards left
metallicorphan on 8 Dec '07
Well that's just stupid.
Surely they're codes so they can't go out of stock?
oblivion252 on 8 Dec '07
Well that's just stupid.
Surely they're codes so they can't go out of stock?

Thats what I was thinking even more stupid as you can only make 2 wii point purchases in one day. Only the 100 point cards left now. Although you gain nothing by grabbing higher value cards apart from time Smile
lonewolf2002 on 8 Dec '07

Yeah, and doesn't that suck!

I had the same problem this morning - I tried to get three 100-point cards but found out the hard way that you can only make two purchases a day!

At least none of my stars will expire before the end of the month but at this rate it'll take forever to convert my remaining 4,370 stars!

They'd better get some of those bigger cards back in stock soon - I need some more games for my VC! Mad *shakes fist at Nintendo*

BTW, The Stars Catalogue is still s**te!
gatchacaz on 8 Dec '07
Bagged me a Legend of Zelda statue and Nintendo charm bracelet. Something for the missus =P

Can't effing wait to get my statue though. It had better be good.

You can't can't register two of the same consoles sadly. Tried it with Gamecubes =[
Squall5005 on 8 Dec '07
They had better get them back in stock.
oblivion252 on 8 Dec '07
How bl**dy stupid?!? Nintendo finally come up with a good idea that actually rewards their EU customers and then spectacularly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

As with any decent item on the stars catalogue, they have so few of them that the site crashes under the sheer weight of traffic as everyone clamors for them and then only a few people get anything decent.

C'mon C&VG get a statement from Nintendo!

I've just registered on the new site with my wii and games.
But when trying to link my wii shop channel to my new nintendo account it comes up with an error code 206401?
If i can;t get the wii points then the catalogue stuff looks pretty useless.

Heres what I found on your error:

You may receive this error while attempting to link your MyNintendo account to the Wii Store. This comes as a result of non-alphanumeric characters in either your login name or password. To work around this problem, simply remove these characters, apply the changes to your MyNintendo account, and try again

Non-alphanumeric characters? the only characters that are not Letters or Numbers are @ and . as in Myemail62@wherever.com
Is that what you mean? cause how can you remove them?

That's a bit cack that you can't swap Star points directly for Wii points. I've got 10k+. What would I get for that?

A bracelet, a notepad or possibly a DS kit oh or a pink wallet for holding DS stuff.

Thanks anyway mr wolf. Just put it down to one of those things for now. See what happens.
Nuke144 on 9 Dec '07
Jeez stop complaining! The site is clearly having teething trouble, it's not even been live for 3 days! And of course they're gonna run out of stock quickly! People have been accumalating Star Points for the past year with sod all to spend them on. As for the shop running out of Wii Points cards... well that's just odd.

I think the new site is fantastic, a long overdue overhaul. I just hope they can iron out the bugs quickly and get more stock in.

Nope only 1000 of my 4000 were going to be wiped at the end of the month not my full balance. All of which accumalated before the new site and most before stars/wii points conversion announced.

Can't even buy 100 wii points now. I'm going to lose 2900 at the end of the month as well, which'll mean I'll have f**k all left to spend really.

Stupid f**king company!
FatBoyFonz on 10 Dec '07
Just sent an angry letter to Nintendo to complain. What's the bets that I lose 2900 stars and then won't be able to afford anything.

Seems you won't get stars for visitng the site anymore so my balance is going to remain quite low.

Even if I did waste 2900 stars on tat (mario kart racer cars or wallpapers) will it automatically use the oldest stars do you think?

Has anyone actually tried registering 2 of the same game on the new site? because I've registered 2 copies of sports and play (mine and my significant others) with no probs and got the stars for em!
Dunno about the consoles though as she lost the stars card for her Wii and my DS is the old one and hers is a Lite
