For those of you unfamiliar with Frontlines, it's a futuristic FPS crafted by Kaos Studios, the team behind acclaimed Battlefield 1942 mod Desert Combat. Powered by the excellent Unreal Engine 3, Frontlines is set in a frighteningly real near-future where the battle for ever dwindling energy resources has seen the world erupt into a second dark age of conflict.
China and Russia have teamed up to form the Red Star Alliance who face off against the Western Coalition of the US and Europe and it's multiplayer war on all fronts in the year 2024. And that's all the excuse you need to enjoy huge levels of multiplayer carnage, featuring a unique frontline mechanic which keeps the action tight and focussed as infantry, tanks, fighting vehicles and drones, remote-controlled combat units which just might represent the future of warfare.
If you'd like to know more, be sure to check out our exclusive beta interview with Senior Producer Joe Halper from Kaos Studios, who's put together an extensive Q&A on the beta and what you can expect to find there, plus some handy hints and tactics you'll need to survive on the frontline.
Once you've had a chance to play, head on over to our Frontlines beta forum, where you can chat with fellow players and where Kaos Studios' own Community Manager Mitch Gross will be available tonight to have a natter about the game and help you out with any issues.
We've also scattered a few bonus shots around for you to enjoy, so report for duty now soldier, we'll see you on the Frontline.
Looking forward to this. Loved Desert Combat, this has sorta come out of the blue though. I haven't been following development, so this is a nice surprise.
i was really looking forward to this game and.....
played the game and it really is crap! sorry but this is my honest opinion. i won't be giving up BF2/2142 series for this and I certainly won't buy this game. it's like 5 years old and totally laggy. might even say it is the worst multiplayer game i have ever played! not being hard here, give it a go and you will all see for yourselves.
man, what is happening to games lately??? i hated crysis demo, thought U3 was bad and havn't made my mind up about COD4 yet. mmmmm i just don't know what's the future right now of gaming in general.
Hi all, Soz to hear some of you have been having problems with the Frontlines code. We've made every effort to test the code and it's worked a whole bunch of machines, set ups and environs.
First thing to check: When you download the game code, please make sure you've got a full 1.7 Gig exe file. Once that's downloaded - all should be fine, seems to be the commonest problem.
Anyone who's got a beta key doesn't work, we're getting hold of a few more and will PM an alternative for you to try.
To above re laggy gameplay. ITS A BETA, not a demo. Hell, I stood in an arch way and couldn't be killed. you find a bug, report it on the beta forums if it's not already there!
Nice community support already. Way better than trying to make people pay fileplanet memberships for a beta key. 1.16 MB/s is a great DL speed as well. I will give a review after I play.
I think i have a fairly good pc and an internet connection, but the game feels like hitting the opponents with a mile long rubber pole. What i mean that it's really laggy.
it is rather laggy and unstable but it is a beta... and free... i run the game at 30fps (hoping for increase of fps i full version and il buy it)
the drones in the game is awesome. though the red star missile helicopter is practically useless, it need a higher top speed and acceleration and it will be balanced.
it's a tolerable amount of bugs in the beta(people not dying, invisible wall that only stops bullets from one direction and so on but great anyway (some tanks and cars feel a bit to hard to steer though and others are excellent..))
with better frames this game will rock! (though single player will probably not be very good

What the hell are you talking about?
Crysis, U3 and CoD4 are some of the best fps games I've ever played. Probably the best ever made infact.
If you don't like those then I'd give up playing games and move to mongolia.
