C&C FPS due late 2008

Squad-based shooter Tiberium in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 - and is this a concept video?
EA has confirmed to us that the Command & Conquer series is merging with the first-person shooter genre in new title Tiberium.

The publisher was keeping lips pretty tightly sealed, but it did tell us that the game is pencilled in for a late 2008 release. Official images aren't expected until early next year, but there are scans already doing the round as additional details have appeared in Game Informer magazine.

It's said the game is a squad-based shooter that's set 11 years on from the third Tiberium war, and is being described as Battlefield-meets GRAW-meets Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Players strap on combat boots as Ricardo Vega, a GDI field commander who has come out of retirement.

The magazine adds that the Scrin faction debuting in C&C 3 will turn up as enemies in Tiberium - along with, presumably, Nod, although that isn't clear - and that as Vega you'll be able to command infantry squads and vehicles and be able to call in air strikes.

Plus, there's what is reportedly and early concept video of the game viewable here.

It's not the first time that the Command & Conquer series has merged with the first-person shooter genre of course. How could we ever forget the super-anticipated but ultimately disappointing C&C: Renegade?

Renegade was alot of fun online though. I hope they use the same multiplayer ideas for this game too, and not just boring deathmatch etc. Could be so fun on XBL.

Squad based first person shooter, well, there's a novelty idea if ever there was one!

The potential is there, it'll all come down to execution.

imagine if EA used the cryengine 2, just like th upcoming command and crysis mod is doing, it could be potentially amazing but i seriously hope EA do not f**k it up as they have shown great support for cnc3 so far

My craps were/are better than renegade, i sadly i dont see this being any different, but i do see this using either the black engine or the medal of honour engine, or heck even the crysis engine, lets hope they get a decent fps developer working on it for a half decent game.

Leave it up to EA to drive a franchise into the ground.

"...what about... Command & Conquer... Tiberium Sunrise... Golf?"

Hmm Renegade was decent and the online was a blast so I'll be watching this.
