Ubisoft delays 2008 shooters

Haze, Far Cry 2 and Brothers in Arms all see slippage in 2008
Ubisoft has offloaded its weekly release schedule, revealing a handful of delays for its 2008 shooters Far Cry 2, Haze and Brothers in Arms.

As if we didn't know already, the French publisher has confirmed that Free Radical shooter Haze won't make it into the shops this year, and is now destined for release in "early 2008".

Meanwhile Far Cry 2 has seen a month delay, putting its release back to March - though from what little we've seen of it so far we'll be impressed if it even makes it out that early.

The really bad news is that Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway has been delayed again - though only on PlayStation 3. PS3 owners will now have to wait until March for the Gearbox shooter - one month later than Xbox 360 and PC gamers.

Isn't it about time Xbox 360 and PS3 games actually came out at the same time?

Re: Xbox360 and PS3 games getting released at the same time.
I think developers would like to do this but it seems to me that the PS3 is a real bitch to develop for. I may be wrong there but it is certainly the impression that i get whem listening to developers woes.

I agree to some extent but if thats the case how did CoD4 manage to make it out on about 4 platforms? Simple, they put the right resources into making the game possible and available to all on release day.

Christ stranglehold was only just released about 3-4 weeks ago and so was MOH - Airborne! These have been out since sept on the 360 FFS! Maybe 08 will be different but it's total b******s if devs say it can't be done!

Yes but not all devs can afford to do that. The PS3 COD4 team was a larger group than the other versions & counted as the more talented of the Infinity ward team. Just to get it to the same satndards & release date as the 360 version. This is a hell of a lot to ask for smaller devs

... in all honesty i think its time ps3 got more exclusives let alone a joint release date

Done. There are alot of PS3 exclusives coming in 2008, more than Xbox 360, which is about right for the lifecycle. Xbox had a ton of exclusives in 2007, 2nd year of it's life. So, it stands to reason that the PS3 would follow suit.

I can't believe they were expecting to have FarCry 2 out that quickly anyway. Unless they're just using old material and bumping up the polycounts. It was only announced a few months back FFS.

I can see it slipping a hell of a lot more than that before release. Late 2008 is far mroe likely.

Not quite... remember that the Xbox 360 has been out a year longer than the PS3 so developers on that format had a head start. I seem to recall several multiformat games on the PS2 and Xbox 360, being released later on the latter platform because developers were having to learn a new machine, one with a multithreaded CPU at that. The PS3 is, unfortunately, an even more complicated piece of hardware than the 360 so if it means getting multiformat games a month or two later, surely that's better than get a substandard title? Personally, I'd rather have a game delayed for improvements than play a borked up piece of tat!

Crikey! It is nearly 08 now so what is the rush? Surprised

Maybe they want to please the 360 fan base, since that's where they make the most money?

The 360 isn't that different to a PC, Microsoft control the APIs on both platforms, which is basically an extension of an API that's been around for at least a decade (DirectX). So it's not really a surprise that a different architecture takes longer.

Luvcampus - read the story!

This story comes from Ubisoft's weekly announcement apparently. It wasn't plucked from thin air because it's a slow news day! That's not how news works y'know. Sheesh, some people are cynical. If you don't believe it complain to Ubisoft.

read the story the first time. and there's still no release date from gearbox.. so it might as well be taken from thin air.

Granted but Ubisoft publish the game and are issuing a prediction of when it will be on store shelves for the industry. It's art vs commerce innit.

BIA was originally planned for release Q4 07/08 and has been pushed back to fiscal 2008/09 so it has been delayed. You may not have seen the earlier release plans but it was announced and has been pushed.
