The US retail version of Unreal Tournament III (for PS3) is without the much-hyped PC mod support due to "legal/release issues", Epic programmer Josh Adams has admitted.
Much noise was made about the PS3 being an open development, allowing for UT III to support PC mods on the console. Yet the final game has sneakily turned up without its mod support features, because they weren't ready on time.
"The PS3 mod tools aren't quite ready yet," confessed Adams, after baffled gamers tried their best to apply PC mods to the PS3 game. "We are working through some final legal/release issues."
He goes on to admit that you will need to download an update containing the mod support. "When it's ready, you will need to download the latest PC patch and another PS3 Mod Tools 'patch' that adds the full PS3 mod support to the PC version.
PC mods will then need to be processed for PS3 use, he details. "You will have to cook your mods for the PS3 specifically. You will also need removable media (memory card, USB drive, etc) to transfer the mod from your PC to your PS3."
When will the patch arrive? "We will have the tools ready ASAP!!" says Adams on the official forums.
Meanwhile, Epic has also revealed that it's considering adding split-screen play to the PS3 game in a future update. "We're aware that some of our customers wanted splitscreen for the PS3 version of UT3. We hear you and will evaluate the feature for possible future updates to UT3."
They need to add mouse pointer support for the UI, too. Yes, we're a nation of wingers. Can't be helped.
So this game could of been releaseed on the 360 as well? , i thought the mod part of it was holding it back from functioning on LIVE!. What aload of b******s this company talks, & as for that two faced, smary w****r Mark reign!.... they can stick this game, i hope it dies on its bottom.....(got horrible cold today & am in very bad mood)
Er, calm down fella's. Most people will be too busy initially playing what is included in the game to worry about mods. Though it was supposed to be a big part of the ps3 release....
Anyway, I'm in a good mood as I have just recieved my ceramic white dualshock 3 pad! Mmmm, weighty.
Total BS if you asked me, i was going to import this but i'd rather wait for thr proper full release they should have put out in the US and to not have mod support out the box which they were screaming from the rooftops is another criminal act by developers and the PS3. Sometimes i think i doubt the machine will never get any decent press, with release dates slipping, poor ports or games not doing what it says on the tin!

Only you Mark could be in a good mood about having to buy something from Sony that should of already been included with a over priced console....

Can I help it if my glass is half full? Also, it is just in time for the Burnout demo. Niceness. Anyway, stop being miserable you lot. IT'S (nearly) XMAS!!!
Half finish game rushed out for the Christmas cash in. I love the look of this game but I WILL now wait for the 360 version!
Don't think Xbox 360 version will support mods. Sorry.
Not that bothered about mods really. I just want a bugless finished game that has had the time spent on on it that it deserves.
I'm with you all the way on this one Bydo (cool username btw). As I've said before, the age of DLC and HDDs in consoles means that we get hurried commercial decisions being made at the expense of a game's quality, only for it to be bombarded with patches at a later date. I'm all for fixing little niggles here and there, but when you look at the amount of updates this game has received on PC since its release, this game clearly was not finished.
It's the only medium where you can get away with this and it's not on. Could you imagine buying an album without vocals because they weren't ready, but you can "still enjoy the great instrumentals" until the vocal patch is released?
Splitscreen is a nice update feature, however, with the PS3 being the first serious online-console venture for Sony, splitscreen should be in all such games as standard from the start - pretty much all shooters on the Xbox have splitscreen regardless of the great Live setup.
Sounds like such a hassle just to play these mod's and that's not what console's are about. How many people are honestly going to go through all this bother to create a PS3 compatible map, then go far about putting it on a memory stick to transfer to PS3, then most likley jump through hoops to get it to work? The best solution would have just been to put the most popular mods on th PSN Store to download. They could do the same for the 360 version.
So theres no spilt screen multiplayer on the ps3 version at the mo?. What a crock of s**t.
I'm all for online multiplayer, but the whole reason I bought a console is to have a few mates around and a couple beers and play some games. Motostorm is the same - how can you release a driving game with no split screen multiplayer?.
If i want to play online only games i'll stick with the PC

Agreed, when most people don't even know the PS3 has a Blu Ray player built in. I doubt they will figure out the UTIII mod workings.
