Ubisoft is expecting Assassin's Creed to hit five million unit sales in its fiscal 2007 to 2008 year, which ends March 31, 2008.
Describing current sales of the roof-top hopping back-stab-'em-up as a "record performance", the publisher's said that the game topped two and a half million sales worldwide in its first four weeks on shop shelves.
Apparently it's "the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever".
Already released on Xbox 360 and PS3 (review), a PC version of Assassin's Creed is due to release next year. Hopefully in a more finished state than the console versions.
Very good going for a new franchise! I still want to try it out before spending any money though - there are just too many other titles competing for my cash to buy it speculatively...
I think this is great news. Despite the fact that the game is reportedly a bit average, it's a new franchise and hopefully will encourage more of this kind of big money gamble by making developers convinced that it is less of a gamble than previously thought... ..if that makes sense
i can honestly say after having both versions which are identical, this game looks fantastic, feels great but is so incredibly repetitive and all four towns look identical, it bores the life out of you after 4 hours play. get a cheap copy of eBay is my advise
This is great news for the industry. Assasins Creed is a great game, gets a bit repetetive yes, but so do most games. The best thing about this game for me is the excellent plotline and really interesting and relevant subject matter which, i feel, the game handles very well. Also, trying to acheive stealth kills on all your main targets can prove challenging and fun at the same time. Classy piece of software.
the futuristic, gone back in time thing wrecked it for me. too OTT and atmospheric ruinage. totally unnessecary and silly.
They couldnt make it completley set in ye olden times. They had to give it some of new slant as we can look froward to the game that im most looking forward from Ubisoft.
Excellent news, a sequel could be a good thing. Assassins was a good game with a couple of minor gameplay niggles. Hopefully a sequel will be more polished in the gameplay area and for me get rid of the flag collecting.
I like Assassin's Creed, it just seemed to be need another few months of development and it would have been a classic. Most of the work could have been done on the AI which is pretty bad by today's standards and more variation in gameplay. That's some nice sales figures for an unfinished game!
poor game. done the first assassination? you've seen the game. repetitive and boring. add in the animus breaking the illusion every 5 minutes and the stupid dialogue with the people in the facility, the flawed lock on system, terrible ai etc... let down of the year.
The game hastn managed even 1 million in X360 in USA in November .In PS3 is also around 500K .
Canadian data should be added too .
Add to that some 30K from Japan in its X360 version (PS3 version isnt out right now ).
That doesnt arrive to 2 million .So are we to believe it has sold some 3 million games in Europe and PAL region providing we have far less X360 and some less PS3 that in USA ?
Assassins creed is one of the worst games I have ever played has ste hicky said the flawed lock on system and rubbish ai it took me half an hour to do my 1st pick pocket becuase the on screen instructions were wrong. They should stick to making prince of persia.
Is it any good? Not that I'd fancy it anyway. Only console games I've got this season are Endless Ocean (totally cool dude) and Mass Effect (PC version will be better) which is a top game.
