17 Wiis sold a second on Amazon

Online retailer says this Christmas was its best ever
Online retailer Amazon.com is boasting that this holiday season was its best ever, noting the Wii as one of its fastest sellers.

Amazon announced Wednesday that it sold about 17 Wiis per second "when they were in stock," which probably wasn't all that often.

Super Mario Galaxy and Call of Duty 4 were also top-sellers in the videogame category.

The busiest day for Amazon wasn't "Cyber Monday," rather December 10, when customers ordered over 5.4 million items. The firm said that 99 percent of its holiday orders shipped on time to over 200 countries.

I can believe the stats...sh1t i tried to get a "leggit" one for weeks before crimbo and wanted to avoid the leeches & scamsters on eBay, Spanish or Greek origins accepted!

Unfortunately I'm one of the 1 percent then that still hasn't received my DVD pressie for my dad, but there's always a bottle of malt to lessen the pain!! Nah but I believe that the online business has been a bit of an abortion this year...but in the UK more down to our beloved Royal Mail rather than the despatchers!

thyere only selling at 17 per second as they are only in stock for a few hours every week.

Amazon musn't be that smart. They basically just told everyone that 540,000 items didn't ship on time. Not good advertisement i would have thought!

Wow 17 wii's per second, I bet that splurge only lasted 20 seconds until they ran out again! Laughing

Lol poor Wii's they were brough into this world rushed and they will come out via trade-in, Lets face it not many people play their Wii's anymore unless theres a really good game out like Super mario galaxy or RE4 but i suppose this is kinda bad news for nintendo i dont understand how they cant make enough Wii's to meet demands its not like people who already have one buy one again Confused Unless..... Ebay?

That has got to be the stupidest thing i have ever read on the internet, seriously. Of course Wii sales will slow down eventually but it is not as though they will stop suddenly and leave Nintendo with a big hole in their wallet. Think about it, everyone wants one, then loads get one, the Wii is still short in demand and slowly it will slope down until they are not short in demand, and people have no trouble buying them but do anyway. Over 150 consoles must have been sole last gen, only what, about 35 million so far this generation. There are more sales to come.

I made a bad move with my Wii. I purchased 4 awesome games at once. Metroid 3, RE Umbrella Chronicles, Zelda, and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. I cant figure out which one to allocate the most time to!

I feel like a fat kid locked inside a bakery. Very Happy

Not bad 17 a second over the xmas period, now the ps3 sold just 17 units in that whole period and the 360 had 17 returns per second in that period.

But thats the same with all consoles. You get a game thats great, Clear it, and wait for another game to come out. Happened with mario galaxy on wii. I've finished it and now i'm waiting for smash bros. Cleared guitar hero 2. Now i got 3. Unless your a kid who plays games constintly its not that big deal imo. Take up a hobby. Play guitar or learn some form of instrument. Thats what I do with alot of my time.

Because that's not true of any console. Seriously, who let you in? I try to play good games exclusively on any medium. It's not as if I buy an XBox for that new Viva Pinata game, or The Golden Compass. I'm having plenty of fun with my Wii, thank you very much.

For an on-line retailer, Amazon are absolute s**t, I will not use them ever again.

I ordered an in stock item from them on the 10th of December, the item didn't get shipped until the 16th December and didn't arrive until Christmas Eve. Considering that Amazon take you money as soon as you order, they should send the item out on the same day if it's in stock.

p**s poor service by Amazon for me personally and if the item I wanted was in stock on another site, I would've ordered it elsewhere as there are clearly better online retailers out there that care about their customers.

That's a little unfair, considering they're the biggest online retailer and it's christmas. having said that, I never buy from amazon anyway. As if you need to charge for delivery!

Amazon takes payment just before they send the item not as soon as you order and most stuff is shipped with in 24 hours. Ive been using em for 2 years and never had a prob, Sounds like your order was with ther new and used section which is 3rd party sellers

Amazon processed and took the payment as soon as I ordered. The item was supplied by Amazon themselves, nothing to do with their new and used section with resellers. I just expected a bit more from what is supposedly a first class retailer.

I am going by this incident as well as an incident the wife encountered 2 years ago, where Amazon had to send out 3 times, a box set of Indiana Jones.

I will not be using them again, simple as. They have let me down on more than 1 occasion, so I will make my judgement on my personal experience and not on someone else's personal experiences.
roynluc on 29 Dec '07
Well when you order from amazon it says despatch estimates so it would have told you the date then, you can't really complain. They have so many orders at that time. I have to say they are a great online company and even gave me a £5 voucher when I tried to buy something from their third party sellers which turned out to be a hacked account/scam. It didn't cost me anything in the end and I got that voucher for my trouble

Ooh the irony -- 1% of 5.4 million is 54,000, not 540,000 Laughing.

and most will be down to the royal Mail etc. Amazon in the past have delivered directly to me through Christmas at a really random time in their van, not through the post man with his short shorts
almanac2015 on 31 Dec '07
Probably a good chance half of these wii's bought are owned by Sony employees who secretly worship Nintendo for never living upto anything remotely of the genius that is Nintendo.

It's ok Ken we won't mind you loving your wii, you can even take it bed with you, it's probably more playable then your wife anyways. :]
