It's a new year, but the hoohaa surrounding the PS3 port of Valves Orange Box continues as customers hit forums to complain, but there could be a fix on the way.
First critics, and then PS3 owners, were disappointed when the Sony version of the otherwise stunning Orange Box turned out to be full of technical glitches. It didn't help the game was also a bit temperamental online.
But in reply to a livid customer, who posted a 547-word rant on Valve's forums about the troubles he'd experienced, a Valve rep said: "I am sorry that you are unsatisfied with your game," breaking the company's silence on the matter.
The representative goes on to say: "I hope that we will be able to correct any major issues in the future," hinting at a possible - and much-needed - big-fixing update for PS3.
A patch to fix the online gameplay (i.e. make it actually possible to join Team Fortress servers) would be very useful.
I'd say essential rather than useful. Hope this happens though, the glitching can ruin what is otherwise a fantastic game. Nicked it off my mate for the last few days and its awesome, better than i remember it on p.c. Mind you, my p.c. aint breaking any performance records and this is a pretty game
this is what happens when EA gets hold of anything.
ps3's and 360's, the argument will go on forevermore, but honestly, if you have a half decent pc, you wont need a 360 for any of the "exclusive games" as they will neerly undoubtabley be ported to pc eventually, and ps3...well...games will tell its future, much as they did with the psp/ds battle, the ds is winning because it has more games, better games, and a wide audience. only recently have any psp games that i would want been released/announced.
RROD???? Only have yourself to blame for buying cheap Amercan Crap?? Oops! Sorry! Xbox 360.
There, that was nice and childish wasn't it? You've always got to try and critise the opposition haven't you so I think the above childish response is required?
The Orange Box on PS3 is frustrating but you have to remember that the developers screwed it up and it is NOT anything to do with hardware limitations.
correct me if i'm wrong but this threads about the PS3 version of orange box. so if you havn't played TF2 on the PS3 or got a PS3, stop tryin to stir up pointless fanboy wars
anyways TF2 server probs only effect certain accounts while its perfectly fine 4 others
other than that the orange box's framerate and slow down aint game ruining as much as people make out
I just think its a shame that gamescompanys are starting to rely on patches on console games. The thing i liked about the consoles is that you insert your game and volá you can play it exactly like the neighbour next door. Now that consoles have HDD i think that developers are starting to release unfinished products just to be first ignoring us costomers. The can always release a patch later on, if sombody complains. This is really sad for console gaming.
What I don't get...why are there a number of games, lately, where online & offline have many more issues on the PS3?
It's funny. Maybe any developers for the PS3 should just make "cancer-research" games for the doctors & scientists as that seems to be the only thing PS3 is good for right now. Sad.
If you're gonna give us buggy games...sell it for less. Or, better yet, DELAY the game to work out the kinks! Don't be like EA! All this money we spend to fill the pockets of the people that make these games and they can't even get a fully working product. Get it together!
I think Mogs owns a PC & stop taking the bait muppet.
so what i own a PC as well...do you see me going into PC related topics and taking the p**s?? ...NO! (god knows why, but this chap 'mogs' has got an incredibly big chip on his shoulder)
p.s i dont appreciate being called a muppet..i expected more from you mfnick
not being funny but why do people still prefer PS3's to 360's.
Its clear at the moment which one has the better games and the better online !
the only thing PS3 has is Blu Ray and nobody I know gives a damn about blu ray yet anyway, so why ?
sorry i shouldnt ask but, why has no one answered the original question......why buy a ps3 over the 360.
dons fanboy cap... reliability,no proprietry peripherals (excluding the obvious)free online play, bluetooth, card readers,HDD as standard,wi-fi,web browser,blu-ray drive and anything else the 360 has to offer...ahem(apart from games..at the moment)
Personally I love my 360, but will consider saving up for a PS3 later this year. Right now it doesn't have any AAA titles worth buying it for although like Seadaripper said it is a great piece of hardware and I wouldn't mind starting up a BluRay movie collection. I will consider it once games like MGS4 or maybe even Killzone 2 (but probably not!) get 95% and above scores on metacritic etc as I will not get a game without trustworthy reviews.
Had the Orange Box on the 360 but traded it in to get the PC version. It was the original platform designed for so I wanted to have that instead.

I would recommend the PC version if you have a PC. Cheaper (via steam), possibility of better graphics (even in the future if your computer is like mine) and more playable due to a mouse rather than controller.

Maybe not, but I do seem to remember your username alongside some flamebaiting in Wii topics in the earlier months of the year.
This whole situation really does reflect badly on EA, particularly considering that with the recent creation of Activision Blizzard, they need to start differentiating and distancing themselves from their old/existing image as the kings of shovelware.
