You'd be a FOOL not to have expected a sequel to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but the news still fills us with warmth on this chilly morning as we're massive fans of the original.
Yup, Naughty Dog vice president, Christophe Balestra, has confirmed work has already begun on the sequel, although he refrained from giving out any further details.
The first game follows the exploits of Nate - a sort of treasure-hunting type person - on his mission to uncover the secrets of one of his supposed ancestors, Sir Francis Drake. It's bloody brilliant by the way. Take a look for yourself here, and read the review here.
Fingers crossed Sony comes out and backs the developer up. Until then you need to shoot your way through the first game if you haven't already.
Great news (although not a suprised); finshed uncharted last night and it's been the best game I've played in a long time. It's the first I actually have the urge to play through the whole game again.
Just hope that it doesn't take 2 years to release the 2nd game which is something naughty dog has said in the past (and then further games each year). Would be good to be able to put Uncharted 2 and Resistance 2 on my wish list for Christmas 2008.
I was a bit worried that Uncharted would be ignored by a lot of people even though it is a brilliant game. Really happy that the developers have decided to make another. Nothing needs to be improved gameplay wise, maybe just make the puzzles a little more difficult or expansive - though not too much as the flow of the game was very good in my opinion. Some more spooky tombs would also be nice as the lighting effects and shadows were top notch.
While I think Uncharted is PS3's best game, I was rather hoping it would be a one off game rather than something they would make sequels based on. I would have much rather they spent their time making a new Jak and Daxter...

I am sure they could be making both alongside each other. Jak and Daxter would be great. Platformers need to enter the HD era. I don't really count R&C as that was more of a shooter than platformer.
On the topic of platformers, what the hell has happened to Banjo? I was genuinely looking forward to that. Rare have it far too easy if you ask me. Get some bloody work done! They were just as slow when they worked for Nintendo.
when i saw an early video of Uncharted the graphics were glitchy.
But I bought the final game. The graphics are amazing. I love the lighting, the water, the platforms, the voice acting. Puzzles are a bit weak but that's it.
It was a great game (easily the best game on PS3) but I thought there was still plenty room for improvement;
- puzzles were a bit weak, especially the ones where you had to arrange things the same way as the book. Sometimes you couldn't see enough detail on the level objects to make out if it was wrong.
- remove the "press X button now or die instantly" sections which are always rubbish, or if they need to exist at least give us a "GET READY" prior notification as per Farenheit. Likewise if we are racing to a timer or something, let us know how much time we actually have. I know these things add to the minimalist OSD but they would sure be helpful, and only necessary at certain points.
- final level was poorly scripted, main baddie was invincible until you were allowed to kill him, and could kill you immediately unless you picked up on the "boss pattern" (which did not appear at any other point in the game)
Saying that, the characters are among the best I've ever seen in a game. Humour was generally spot on (heads up, anyone?) and overall I thoroughly enjoyed it, even with its flaws.
Somebody already mentioned it but, more tombs and crypts this time please! And keep the human baddies out of them - I want to feel like the first person in there for hundreds of years!!!

I'd actually prefer less tombs and crypts. In fact I'd be happy looking at lush, lovingly rendered jungle for the whole game, though most of the platformy-puzzley sections occured indoors... so a nice mix is required. I agree it was strange that there were enemies inside some of these ancient structures. On many occasions I thought to myself "Judging by the way I just got in here, nobody else would have been able to. Therefore I shouldn't expect any gunfights", only to see the entire Yemenese military emerge from behind a rock.
I haven't actually finished the game yet, but I have started over. The reason being
...those damn mutants! I'm sick of games going the paranormal route. What the hell was wrong with humans?! The game was so perfect and so much fun up until that point... then suddenly you are in a boring, dark, s**tty environment trying to open a boring, dark, s**tty series of doors while those bastards infinitely respawn. This is not a game made for close-quarters gun combat and as a result, it's implementation ruins the game IMO.
Now I may only be a few minutes from the end for all I know, because I'm aware that I'm very far at that point, but I still don't ever see myself mustering the willpower to play through that horrible section in order to see the ending.

agreed on all points. i'd also like it to be longer, roughly 15 to 20 hours in length.
Am i the only one who loved the game, all the way until chapter 19? The last 2 hours of play, from when you (*spoilers ahead*)
meet those cursed creatures really messed up the game, made it too unrealistic, and made you use the ocmbat system in a way it should not have been used. Then the last chapter, the Stand off was awful. The character was invincible until the end, and when you finally get round to him, you lose a weapon in an unrealistic situation.
Lets hope there is more realistic chapters all the way through Uncharted 2.
