Smash Bros. delay agony continues

Retailers pushing back their delivery dates again
Online retailers across the US have pushed back their expected Super Smash Bros. Brawl release dates to March, suggesting a further delay to Nintendo's all-star fighter.

Originally planned for a Q4 2007 release (and even semi-promised as a Wii launch title by Miyamoto - what a joke that was), US gamers are looking forward to finally getting their hands on the game on February 10, but it seems the big launch may be put back further.

One retailer told a pre-order customer (and GameSpot forum-goer): "We just want to let you know that the release date of Super Smash Bros Brawl (Nintendo Wii) you ordered has been changed to 03/09/2008." That's March 9 to us Brits.

There's still no confirmed UK launch date either. It was missed off Nintendo's most recent Q1/Q2 release schedule, but Nintendo UK insisted that didn't mean the game wasn't out until Q3.

All this confusion over a bloody release date. Sort it out.

Good.

Once this and Mario Kart are released there isn't anything left.

This better be a million times better than the other two with all these delays, otherwise this could go down as one of the biggest disappointments ever. What could possibly be taking them so long?
Legend6T9 on 14 Jan '08
although this will probabyl be the best game in the Wii's lifespan, it probably be so much of a let down, imo there isnt going to be a big enough jump in gameplay like there was between SSB and Melee. Dont get me wrong it will be an awesome game its just that i think people shoudlnt get too excited because some people are in for a bit of a dissapointment.

On another note: Jesus! how many times can they delay it
On Another another note: Woo! Cant wait to play as Sonic.

Im bored of waiting for this now. Time to turn my anticipation to another game.
mfnick on 14 Jan '08
MKWii had better be out soon in order to bridge the gap. Alternatively, Nintendo could have another secret project up their sleeve...

(No, I don't think that's very likely either.)
Balladeer on 14 Jan '08
Sadly this just goes to show how Wii is exactly like the GC in terms of developer support.
This game could have been released last year but its been delayed again and again because Nintendo wants to spread its releases out to make up for the lack of decent 3rd party support.
A sad state of affairs really and I for one and getting even more tired about hearing this game.
Sort it out Nintendo!
vulcanraven01 on 14 Jan '08
It's amazing how Wii owners are blind to the fact Nintendo are stringing them along thinking a game is just on the horizon for so long before it releases.

Take a look at the Wii launch. Think back to all the games you were looking forward to. That was about 14 months ago now and you've still not got Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing or any of the other Nintendo franchises you expected.

You have to give them credit, they've really suckered in the punters this time. 2008 is going to be a reality check for a lot of Wii owners thats for sure.

Nick are you feeling okay? I thought for sure id be hearing how Nintendo are holding this game back to create a demand for it. No? Okay then. Laughing

Laughing Nah im passed that now.

More than anything im just gutted. Really looking forward to this but after getting hopes up so many times at release dates & having news & screenshots daily ruining surprises for me im starting to feel a bit fed up of it. Which is quite upsetting to say it was my most anticipated game this gen behind No More Heroes Sad

We haven't got any of the other Nintendo Franchises we expected? Big fat WRONG to that one, I'm afraid. Metroid Prime: Corruption and Mario Galaxies ring any bells?
nb_nmare2 on 14 Jan '08
Sorry but Paper Mario was a terrible game!

Metroid is ok for a FPS on a Nintendo console and yes i have endured the latest version.

As for Galaxy, well that was a good game. But that's about the only good game thus far, 14 months in, that Nintendo have released.

Nintendo didn't say any of those would be out for launch.
Everyone knows they'll be out eventually on Wii.
So it's not Nintendo breaking any promises, it's Nintendo making the game before saying they're releasing it. Happens all the time.

Brawl will be out around summer I'd say, Mario Kart for Christmas, who knows about Animal Crossing.
Nollog on 14 Jan '08
this wasn't one of my most anticipated titles anyway, but what interest I had is fading quickly.

Now your trying to twist your words. You werent talking about how good or bad the games are, nor does your personal opinion on their quality change anything. You were talking about Nintendo stringing along Wii users on the release of big titles. You dont like them, then too bad but that doesnt change facts, Nintendo released 3 of their bigger titles within 3 months of each other. That proves the point you tried to make as rubbish.

You've been caught out good and proper and now tried to weasle your way out of it. Imho, now your saying Nintendo have only released one good game in 14 months? lol. Just hold your hands up and say "oops, got it wrong" and move on before you lose all remaining credibility.

Shock horror! Vulcanraven in another biased knock at Nintendo.

Lets see what rubbish are you speaking now? Oh yes, Nintendo are spreading their releases out cause like the gamecube they havent decent 3rd party support.

Ok, to that ill say Tomb Raider, Umbrella Chronicles, No More Heroes, Battalion wars, My Sims, Fifa 08, Guitar Hero 3, Metal Slug, Zak and Wiki, Resident Evil 4, Medal of Honour 2, Nights, Crash Bandicoot, Excite Truck, Raving Rabbids, Ghost Squad, Monkey Ball and loads more than I cant be bothered mentioning

Pack it in VR, your starting to embarrass yourself and im growing tired of correcting you. You dont even own a Wii ffs, so what would you know about anything?

It's amazing how Wii owners are blind to the fact Nintendo are stringing them along thinking a game is just on the horizon for so long before it releases.

Oh really? So nintendo are stringing us along yet they released Super Paper Mario, Metroid 3 and Mario Galaxy within 3 months of each other? 3 of their biggest titles?? I dont think so. Smash Bros will have online captabilities, so maybe they are making sure that unlike a Sony or 360 game, it will actually work on release and not need a patch later.

Im bored of waiting for this now. Time to turn my anticipation to another game.

Nick are you feeling okay? I thought for sure id be hearing how Nintendo are holding this game back to create a demand for it. No? Okay then. Laughing

Ditto (though I don't agree with all the games listed but your point is valid)! Raven is an idiot. And to the other guy, I may have five Wii games at the moment but they get played more than anything on my 360. I have more games for that but except for Oblivion and the stinking glitchy (though fun) Gears of War, I don't want to play anything else. Bioshock and Dead Rising will get another run through at some point but I'm bored of CoD 4 and there's nothing else out there at all! I'm even considering getting Crackdown again. All the games are f***ing boring!
Yeah, there's a lot of complete crap out on the Wii too. But they get avoided anyway. The 360 isn't much different in terms of variety of games: the Wii has party games and the 360 has shooters, boring driving games and sports. YAWN!

Besides, Xbox Live is getting really unbearable now. Can't they get it right??! Not even MSN Messenger works properly (and I don't mean just on Live)! Instead of moaning about a game being delayed again, I think people should be moaning about paying for a service they're not getting. After my Live runs out in March, I don't know if I'll bother re-subscribing till someting else worth playing online comes out (and games worth downloading. XBLA stinks).

I have more than to be getting on with right now anyway with all my DS and Wii games along with some PS2 and GC stuff to finish too. Stuff I want to play
JuiKuen on 14 Jan '08
Going back to the subject though, I can see people annoyance. But as long as its out by the summer and by the time I hopefully gon on holiday (August), I don't care. My cousins and friends abroad love party games like these and Mario Kart and all that. If they don't mess that up for us UK owners, then fine. I don't want an Autumn release. I can kinda see some shafting coming cos Nintendo UK/Europe are total imbeciles.

But if Nintendo are delaying this cos they might be adding someone like Mega Man, then fair enough. If not, then I don't see what's taking them so long...
JuiKuen on 14 Jan '08
Why is it people always cry out about Nintendo not releasing many games, or stringing them along, or delaying them to fill gaps.

Its as if to say they're saying Sony and Microsoft release loads of quality games for their machines in their respective time slots. Yep loads been released so far for the PS3 in-house. Absolutely loads. Same for 360 in its launch year. Tonnes!

Its the same for all 3. Nintendo arguably have done better. So quit the bias moaning. Stick with the real issue.

It's annoying they keep slipping this one back though. I was hoping we'd have either MK or this in the Q1 schedule.

Plenty to be gettng on with tho. Zak & Wiki and MoH:H2 will tied me over till NMH.
Fox on 14 Jan '08
no hard drive - no patches. nintendo HAVE to finish it because they haven't got the safety net of ironing bugs out post launch,at least it'll be ready.

Im speaking with the fatcs I have in front of me. The Wii hasn't got "decent" 3rd party support in the sense 360 or PS3 has. Those two consoles don't have to rely on 1st party titles to shift consoles. Hell, they could release one ever year and still be fine.
Now with Wii, due to the audience it has attracted, casuals, it's ended up with bogged down multi-format games and even some PS2/GC ports.
The games you listed to me trying to prove your point only validates my opinion even more. None of those would come close to shifting a console. The best game on that list is Guitar Hero 3 and that's only because its near identical to the 360/PS3 versions, thankfully because the game doesn't rely on huge processing power etc...

Pack in the VR? Yet again proving my point even more. Who on earth would buy a console to play old games, that if your Nintendo fan, have already played countless times before? The simple fact is that people have been forced down the VR route due to the lack of worthwhile games available.

And yes, Nintendo are stringing you along. You had Zelda on launch, which was average going on that series high standards, you then had to wait until October in Europe to get the next worthwile game, Metroid Prime 3, then you had Mario Galaxy in November, which I will admit is a quality game but its quite simply not good enough. Nintendo have essentially used 3 of its big properties so early in the consoles life. You won't see another one now from each franchaise for another 2-3 years at the least. What are you going to do until then?
Nintendo have relaized this and its only two big games they have left, Mario Kart and Super Smash, are being spaced apart more and more as the months go by.
3rd party support is slightly better than GC's, but there has still yet to be a system selling title either released or in the works for Wii by a 3rd party developer, unless of course you want to count trivia or party games... Rolling Eyes

That's just great, Frank. Like all the 3rd party stuff that comes out on 360 and PS3 are great. Generally its drivel, only polished up in HD graphics. Companies who release these games will make more of loss than 3rd parties do for Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone the crap that's released for the Wii but it not selling is their fault and not the casual market. The PS1 and PS2 were also the more "casual" consoles as opposed to the Saturn, N64 Dreamcast and XBox. So now Nintendo do it and you cry.

Nintendo have always "strung out" their releases but there are some titles worth having that aren't their's which OK, don't look as good as the 'real' next gen machines but at least play a lot better. And in progressive scan, they look good enough to play.

You have to remember, Zelda may have been ported to the Wii but its not an "average" entry in the series. It kicks bottom over most of the uninspired crap on other console. People like you are content with drivel like the ones that come from the genres I mentioned in my post. I ain't. I can't name ten top games for the 360 that I'd want to own. The ones I mentioned (two of which are multi-format) are worth keeping but the rest can f*** off. Halo 3 is a flash in the pan and is crap. Blue Dragon ended up being pants. Mass Effect looks as interesting as watching paint dry (and don't give me any 'you haven't played it' crap cos I know what's worth playing and what isn't). Ditto to the likes of Forza and the PGRs. These games seem to please the XBox masses but they suck. None do nothing new and bore the hell out of me. So when these cack looking games come out for the Wii, I can still pull out some games that ignite fun.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to some of the stuff coming out (namely Resi Evil 5 and possibly Ninja Gaiden 2) but the release list doesn't bring out any enthusiasm from me. And don't go telling me Too Human is gonna be ace. Its another sc-fi yarn. Tops Rolling Eyes

I have over 40 games for my GC and a lot of those are 3rd party games (namely Japanese). I've never owned that much for a console maybe bar the N64 and the Dreamcast (not many as 40 but more that 20). Good 3rd party support doesn't just come from the amount of games. They have to be good games. Like I said, there's plenty of crap on 360 and PS3. From now till maybe GTA, there's nothing remotely interesting on those console. And ditto for after its release. A long wait for the likes NG 2 and RE5. You can throw any Tom Clancy/Ubi Soft lame ass junk in the bin..

I can't be bottomd wasting more time on what I'm trying to say. You can't even spell fact

LOL Tool-tastic. Endured Metroid Prime 3. That's like saying that you're suffering through Halo 3 on XBLive.

Hey, can't you hear the honking? The short bus is waiting for you.
