Sony has told CVG that yesterday's images of the high-anticipated in-game XMB we're indeed fake.
And so our fears of it being the work of a sad, lonely soul with nothing better to do with their worthless lives than screw with the hearts of others have been realised.
"The XMB images are fake," Sony told us, adding: "There are no firmware updates planned for January."
Damn those faker makers. We hope their dirty, Photoshop-forging PC explodes and they're forced to continue their virtual social lives in internet cafes with the tourists and homeless people.
Also, cross your fingers, arms, legs and whatever other limbs you can that Sony adds some of the features discussed in our '10 Steps to Perfect PS3 Firmware' write up.
I know Sony aren't lying because they are so freaking slow to update with stuff the fans really want....so don't expect this until the spring at least.
to be fair, as a practical joke it is quite funny. and anyone who looked closely at the pictures wouldve certainly felt dubious about their authenticity. so while im still thinking "hurry up and get it done", im not left heartbroken as it didnt look bad, but it didnt look good enough to make me cross my fingers

Exactly, those screenshots were clearly fake, dodgy angle, blurry etc etc, any cretin that thought they were real is a mug, just like Sony fanboys to get easily excited other something so clearly fake!
I just bought a ps3 today and must say its online service is vastly inferior to xbox live. The playstation store, well the european version anyway is laughable compared to xbox live marketplace. This damn controller feels like its going to break while posting this message. I pity you guys if your stuck with only a ps3 for your online gaming goodness. This machine is growing on me though. I must say it looks stunniing when its vertical, probably as nice looking as my wii. I have all three consoles and a ds and psp, a geforce 8800 gts equipped pc too. My social life is doomed now it seems.
