Super Smash Bros. gets top marks

Japanese mag Famitsu gives Brawl 40/40
Super Smash Bros. Brawl might not be out on these shores for a while, but the good news is that it'll be more than worth the wait.

Scans of the latest issue brings word that Nintendo's Wii fighter picked up full marks. If you take a peek at the scans you'll get the skinny on most of the playable characters in there too, but be warned - there might be some things on display you didn't know about. Or want to...

But all this only makes the wait for the European version even more painful. "Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we've had to change the release date of the game to March 9 [in the US]", director Masahiro Sakurai recently explained.

Come on Nintendo Europe, throw us a bone here...

Not my kind of thing but I'll try it anyway, I keep on giving these franchises I don't like chances. Am I a glutten for punishment? Shocked

Maybe I might find out what I'm missing that everyone is seeing finally.

Way, I can dust off the old wii soon! Very Happy

I played the cube version for about half an hour. I thought it was a button mashing mess of a game, perhaps I just didn't give it a chance. I'll buy this version to see what all the fuss is about.

The fuss is about it being an awesome game. But if you need something to whet your appetite, how 'bout Mario vs Sonic in a fight (not any of your racing/jumping/throwing/swimming s**te).

That's down to opinion, I know many that love it and are crazy about it but unfortunately I'm not.

Haven't played Mario and Sonic at the olympics but I have a feeling it's nothing like the classic athlete kings on saturn Shocked

How about this... Mario... and Sonic... in... a platformer! Very Happy

Then again as both play so differently it would prob be impossible to pull off. Not without greatly changing one of the characters. Forget it! Keep the platformers separated from each other.

This has to be the game of 2008 for sure.

I pity those that don't understand Smash Bros brilliance, the sheer imagination and variety the game has to offer is astounding.

The game is in no way a button basher, it's all about timing and technique, using the analogue stick in conjuction with well thought out button presses; environmental awareness and thorough understanding of your characters abilities. If I started spamming a regular attack (with the A button), I would get my bottom handed to me on the normal difficulty setting, and I'm one of the people who can beat event match 51 with ease Razz .

To be perfectly honest, Brawl isnt a game that interests me hugely either, although im sure its a great game in its own rite. Will probably still give a try tho when it finally does arrive Very Happy

Oh and vectra, i applaud your sublime taste in athletics games, Athlete Kings was an absolute gem on the Saturn!

I for one, can't wait for this.
JuiKuen on 16 Jan '08
This game will certainly be got... once I get around to buying a Wii - it's at the top of my next most wanted console!
ginsin on 16 Jan '08
i want it now!!!!

Admittedly, Smash Bros games get boring when playing alone. Its the kind of game you need to make a pizza and beer night with your friends and just beat the crap out of each other. Very Happy

And who says violence does nothing positivie for society? Wink

Hence they need to make sure the online is finely tuned. Still sucks that friend codes have to be used. Get rid of them Nintendo!!...

and add Mega Man and Bomberman to the game later as Wii downloads. But I think they need to format the Wii to make saved VC games and downloadable content save to SD cards

Good news. I can't wait.
For those who didn't get into it, if there's one game you should give a chance it's this one.
Play it with four people round and it's absolutely amazing. An improved story mode and online play should stop this one from getting so stale in single player.
Sigh. UK release?

40/40

That impresses me.

I can see this being my game of the year, aptly ignoring the drug dealers of GTA IV in the process.
gothchild on 16 Jan '08
Ganondorf better be in it!
using his sword!
not cpt. falcon's moves!

ppl if you don't buy this game
your dead inside

GAME OF THE YEAR
