Valve confirms TF2 class changes

Pyro to be rewarded for mass burning, Soldier also under investigation
Valve has revealed tweaks in the pipeline for Team Fortress 2 classes in the wake of news that the developer plans "a large scale modification" to the core of the game.

According to Valve's Robin Walker, the Pyro is set to receive an important boost and the developer's tinkering with the Solider too.

"We are indeed investigating Soldier changes, and one of the changes we're trying out is focused on making Soldiers a little more careful firing their rockets at point blank targets", Walker has said in a reply to a fan question.

He continued, "As for the Pyro scoring, we have a minor tweak coming down the pipe. He's going to get a small amount of points for every enemy he ignites.

"This should reward you for those moments where you drop into the middle of an enemy pack and light them all up, hurting them all and disrupting their plans, but not managing to actually kill them."

Earlier this week Valve promised that a "significant gameplay tweak" for the Medic class is on the way too, and that all the game's classes will eventually receive similar treatment.

wee i just hate playing as the pyro and setting fire to a lot of stuff but not killing any, so this is going to make me play pyro more.

and hope that chage to the soldier get added, i hate when u get close up to one of them and they just blow you up at point blank range with the bazooka and they don't take a lot of damage them selves from doing it. (it makes life as pyro and spy hard at times)

Though I haven't played this game for a number of weeks, CoD4's fault, I clocked up well over 30hours of online play - these changes sound very interesting. Especially concerning the Pyro, I loved using him Very Happy

Rushing into an enemy tea-party without being noticed, and lighting 3/4 people up was great fun!

With the Soldier, the same thing happens with the Demoman. Fire off a grenade pointblank at an enemy and you'll more than likely die also. But I suppose that's fair enough... hah!

hope they get rid of the damage you get wen you rocket jump, and definitly improve the voice chat, half the time you can't make out what people say

I love playing as the Pyro already, but I'm very glad they are changing the points system, always did seem a bit harsh to me.

i cant wait for the changes, i think its a really good thing valve is doing and they should do it to all classes.

The Pyro changes definitely sound good. Its so frustrating when you ignite loads of people and none of them die.
