Huge VF5 360 patch released today

Brings saved online replays, online tweaks and a wealth of other new features
Sega has released a patch for Virtua Fighter 5 on 360, introducing a wealth of new gameplay options, tweaks and bug fixes.

Save-able online replays, extended costume options, an online rematch option for public players, and overall tweaking of the online component of the game are just some of the effects of applying the new patch.

Here's the full list of changes:

  • Some characters will now be able to select costume-specific pants in alternate costumes, for example equipping Costume A pants in Costume B.

  • Replays of online battles can now be saved.

  • One additional item per character (appear as "Downloaded item" in Costume settings/Item edit dialog).

  • Gamer pictures will now be shown in online battles.

  • After winning the World Tournament Final, it's now more likely that rivals you have not defeated will be playing in arcades.

  • When someone joins an online match, you can now see their connection quality.

  • Various fixes for minor bugs, including a texture bug.

  • Easier sorting of rankings.

  • Rematches in Online VS. Player Matches now possible even when the players haven't added their opponent to their friend list

Just boot up the game while logged into Xbox Live to receive the update automatically, as usual.

1 man rails against the might of Microsoft.

I'd rather they put in the option to change character when you like while playing vs online.

I love this game but there is never anyone playing online.

There is a good reason for that. Most people (myself included) are just simply not interested in this kind of old school beat em up genre any longer, (if they ever were).

I love the game too. But I don't play online... I'm too scared of having my ass handed to me repeatedly by some crazy Japanese Ubergamer.

I do think its pretty sad that people have that kind of attitude to the game though. It's not particularly 'old school' - no more than Tekken or Soul Calibur, for instance, but it is easily the most finely crafted 3D beat em-up-ever made. Quite possibly the most finely crafted beat-em-up ever made, actually.

I play it now and again but I'm crap at it so I just end up going back to Street Fighter, which I at least have a small amount of skill in.
If anyone fancies schooling me on VF just drop me a friend request and I'll gladly give you a few bouts.

VF isn't an 'old school' beat-em-up, It's as new school as it gets.
Now SF is an old school beat-em-up, and just look at the cheer that went up on the internets when SFIV was announced. People still love to kick people in.

I think I'm actually getting better at VF than I was with SF, mainly because I've not played SF in such a long time. But I'll glady give you a bout of either sometime Razz

HELLO PEOPLE, I meant that the GENRE is old school, not the game. But it is still just a one on one beat em up(no matter how fancy and modern the graphics may be), which i say again, quickly becomes boring and repetetive (for me at least).
wudragon on 16 Jan '08
fair point, but same could be said for a variety of games. i mean look at racing games, racing around the same track over and over may be a bit repetetive for some, but gran turismos done alright out of it!
up2nogood316 on 16 Jan '08
TRUFAX!
And FPS are basically just Missile Command with a bit more movement.
Every genre is just a sexed up version of what it used to be.
Nowt stale about 1 on 1 fighters... you just need someone of a similar/better skill to play against.

Updates are always welcome. It's true there aren't enough people playing. The fact that i can search for opponents online and not be able to find any at all is ridiculous. If anyone feels like the occational match then my gamertag is MARLYJAY.
I'm not as good as i feel i should be and regular opponents would help.

you could say that about any game, for any person. The FPS has been around since Wolfenstein (arguably before, with Ultima Underworld etc). But that doesn't mean its an 'old school' genre...

But hey, if it becomes repetetive for you, thats fair enough. Although you probably should try playing someone who's equally skilled as you are at a game like Vf5. Its an art form. And its the closest thing yet I've experienced to taking part in a real martial arts spar.
