Age of Conan open beta imminent

Ready to go through the application and registration process?
It was understood that Funcom wouldn't be conducting an open beta for its MMO Age of Conan, but according to the developer wires have got crossed regarding its plans.

An open beta will occur prior to the game's release - between March and May this year - however it'll operate a little differently to traditional open betas other companies have launched for their MMOs.

"We are planning to have an open beta for the game as we get closer to launch, however, it will be through specific partners and require an application/registration process, much like most of the other betas for most other games", community manager Shannon Drake has explained.

He continued in a forum post, "We will be limiting the number of keys we release to a manageable number at any given time, rather than subjecting people to queues and loading screens and so on. By 'a manageable number', we mean tens of thousands, not just a handful."

Usually players aren't required to go through an application/registration process to access open betas. They download the client, create an account and away they go.

Anyway... More information on Age of Conan can be had in this recent hands-on preview, and we've interviews plus screenshots and movies galore on our game homepage.

Excellent! It'll be interesting to see how the real game compares to the way I expect it to.

If it's not Severance: Blade of Darkness Online, I'm going to flexing my iron thews.

ive been into several AoC betas and i hate to admit it, but it sucks. The gameplay sucks, the interface sucks. It just isnt fun after lvl 20. It gets boring and repetetive. I really dont care if my account gets shut down due to breaking nda since i dont play that s**tty game anymore... i just wanna warn all of you guys who are dreaming to get into open beta.

That's your personal opinion, others might/will say otherwise when they get to try it for themselves. I never consider a game on others opinion, only way to be sure is to try it myself. This is why I hate movie reviews and game reviews, it's only a personal opinion but still people follow it blindly, letting others chose for them.

Feel free to mail me your beta login. I've been gagging to play for months Smile

It's weird how people who REALLY want to play don't get the chance, and people who don't give a crap get in beta.

Suppose that's just luck of the draw... Sad

Lets hope its better than the last big MMO released, Hellgate London. I will look on in interest and try for a key when they come up.

No doubt it will require a premium Fileplanet account to download the key. That seems to be the trend these days. I guess Fileplanet kicks back a little bit to the devs and we get to pay to be testers. Amazing. Nothing turns me off a developer quicker than seeing them smooching on Fileplanet.

Quoted for truth!

I'll be damned if im going to pay for the privilege of downloading beta's, demo's and patches when i can get them elsewhere for free and probably faster. (unless its an exclusive to them of course)

Your logic is flawed...

He probably did REALLY want to play this game but changed his view of it after playing it. Why would he have even applied for beta if he DIDN'T want to play it? Confused

I've been on a few MMO betas and was never impressed with them. I have high hopes for AoC but that's due to me ignoring the voice of experience.

A man can dream...
