Splinter Cell: Conviction PS3 dated?

Online retailers are at it again...
The previously 360 and PC-only Splinter Cell Conviction is now also set for a simultaneous release on PS3, according major UK retailer GAME.

The site also pens the game to release on all three formats on April 1, despite previous announcements only stating a vague early 2008 release.

As we all know, retailers have a tendency to let slip on things publishers don't always want revealing. Just look at Konami's latest announcement, of which first word came from a very similar posting.

However, Ubisoft UK has told CVG that neither a PS3 version of Conviction, or any proposed release date, have been confirmed by the publisher.

We knew that though, that's why we called. We'll keep the sniffer dogs out on this one...

Hmm wouldn't believe that too much. Might happen in the future, but can't believe a MS exclusive would suddenly go multi-format on launch.

Looking forward to this one... Wink

April 1st eh? Interesting release date!
spooney100 on 22 Jan '08
It seems to be no longer listed on their website. I can't see it anyway.

So, the question is, was it simply a mistake (probably), or did Ubisoft ask them to pull it when they found out about it? Smile

It'd hardly be surprising anyway.

Well, this is the same outfit that put up information for Metal Gear Solid 4 on the XBox 360...

...so you're either dealing with someone 'in the know' that was just stupid about putting their dates up early and ultimately showing a hand that shouldn't be public...or you're just dealing with a bunch of fools that don't know crap about games.

I'm kinda thinking the latter myself--though many folks still believe MGS 4 will be 360 bound after it comes out on the PS3.
matthew_m_g on 22 Jan '08
Like the above poster said, same source as the guy's that listed MGS4 for 360 release later in the year.
Can't see that happening and I can't see this Splinter Cell being on PS3.

I can't see this game working either way. I loved the old splinter cell games but i think they are trying to take the game in a direction that just isn't going to work. Thats why i think they have opted for a multiplatform approach, to try rake in some more cash.

Thats why i think they have opted for a multiplatform approach, to try rake in some more cash.

They've done quite the opposite. It's supposed to built from the ground up for 360 with a PC port also in the pipe line.
I guess they wanted to give something back to the userbase that basically made the series what it is.

Isnt splinter cell 5 a 360 exclusive ?

Isnt splinter cell 5 a 360 exclusive ?

Supposedly.

A lot of the time places like this put the game up "just in case", that way if it ever is released, they are nice and early so higher up on google. And if its not true, then well, press such as this probably brings a bit of traffic too Very Happy

Didnt UBI say conviction was only possible on the 360... Its on this site somewhere.

I wouldn't listen to that sort of bull. Its pretty much what any developer says when talking about an exclusive.
What they should actually say is that it takes advantage of the hardware at their disposal.
I mean the original Splinter Cell was "only possible on Xbox" and yet it was ported over to PS2 eventually, all be it an inferior version, but you get my point...
vulcanraven01 on 23 Jan '08
Exactly, developers come out with all sorts of bulls**t, possibly to try and shut up PS3 owners from complaining. I hope this does come out for PS3 though. Looks pretty good.
ianfosse on 23 Jan '08
Well i don't really like this game and i already got Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. But i know is coming to PLAYSTATION 3 hopefully Blu-ray Disc can make games better even with the rare optional install. I seen videos for this game the animation looks horrible the graphics can look better and i saw a bunch of glitches already.
