UPDATE: We reported last night that a date would be revealed and here it is. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA IV will release on April 29 worldwide on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
"We are so excited to be releasing Grand Theft Auto IV," commented Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games.
"We've pushed ourselves very hard to make something incredible and hope the game sets a new benchmark for interactive entertainment"
2008's first look at the near-finished Grand Theft Auto IV has arrived, and it's the most in-depth look we've had yet at the genuinely exciting sandbox sequel. It's also only the second.
The 4000-plus word rundown of the latest demo describes the missions, gun fights, series-shaking action sequences and everything else Rockstar allowed us to eyeball - including a gorgeous boat trip around Liberty City's waterways.
"Of course Rockstar's 100" TV might have something to do with it, but IV isn't looking dated considering it should have been out for a few months already.
"In fact, it's running visibly smoother at the beginning of our demo. Niko stands on the waterfront at a dock in Broker. It's the kind of rusty, tramp-ridden area of town you'd expect to find flaming barrels and lots of pigeons and that's exactly what surrounds us here."
"The game is in a very, very different place now," boldly claims our Rockstar PR aide. "It's improved in virtually every single way imaginable.
"When we first showed the game a year ago, we said it was really early - it was the earliest we've ever shown a GTA game. A year later and just three/four months away from release you're looking at a game that's virtually complete."
lol, one thing i hate is when rockstar release shots theyre always of the 1% storyboard scenes of the game, or weird camera angles that you rarely ever use. Hows about some in game shots?
Over-hyped, Over-rated, and over here soon according to an "impartial" C&VG journalist! Just release it ffs so we can quit with the boring promo video's and "can we get it banned again please" s**te!
Probably like all the other GTA games , I'll buy it, complete about 30% of it, get bored with the over-stretched paper-thin story arc, and then switch on the cheats to blow as much stuff up as I can with a tank.
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring.
I find it next to impossible to imagine this iteration providing anything significantly different.

All hype no substance.Has anybody seen actual gameplay let alone played the thing yet.It will most likely be the same old stuff with better graphics, which we would normally slate a game for.The problem with sandbox games is that everything can be done right from the off.I agree with an earlier post about completing 30% then getting tired of it.Just like halo, were all just buying into the hype...beware.
I don't see what the problem is ? GTA to me has always been one of those games that I can pick up and play for five minutes or sit down and play for hours.
It's not perfect, but then what game is ? At least with GTA you can always go find something else to do if you get bored. It took me over a year to finish San Andreas, I didn't play it everyday, or even every week, but nine times out of ten when I switched on my xbox, GTA was the game I'd load up.
In an age where we're all moaning about games being too short and too expensive, at least with GTA you get value for money.

I had a dream that i bought the game, took it home and played it, and it was utter crap!!!! Sure hope that was'nt an eerily accurate prediction of some kind.

i had san-an on pc and it was f**king amazing, i played it to death. the atmosphere and feeling of the cities/neighbourhoods is whats so great, this seems to be multiplied by ten here with the graphical effects and tons of little touches that make it so great. this ones much more involved, u will be sucked in even more than before, thats what makes GTA so special.. the other ones did it like no other game.. and they were cartoony!
Oh and you know this for sure do you. You've only seen staged screenshots of this game just like the rest of us,thats no guarantee of gameplay. And what are you gonna do in this version that you haven't done in the others a thousand times before......and by the way chill out,or maybe your one of these guys who should lay off this type of game altogether.
im going to do EXACTLY the same as what i did in the previous games! thats whats excitings about it, GTA is one of few games that all u need to do is make new levels to explore and it is going to be great.
but theyve done far more than that!
the gameplay is pretty much guaranteed. its the same as san-an except much improved physics. rockstar knows what its doing.
I understand what youre saying, its just that as of yet no one has seen or played the game yet. What do you know of the physics or anyone else at this stage.Halo 3 was just more of the same but that turned out to be a dissapointment.More of the same isnt always great.

instead of being so cynical, doesnt anyone think that they're holding back gameplay footage or in game shots to keep the tension and excitement up? i think that theyve got it so good that they want people to literally be like "wtf, this is incredible". whereas if they give you tons of in game footage to preview, people will be like "yeh yeh ive already seen this" when its released. i hope im right, san andreas was the mutts nutts, imagine being able to go into buildings now, and not just the mission ones. i will stick my neck on the line, im not going to sit on the fence, i think this will blow people away with how good it is.

hit the nail on the head! shot number 2 looks great though.

cvg has explained that the cars dont look like boxes on wheel, the have independant suspension etc, they told about about the RAGE and EUPHORIA systems that make it deeper than ever before. they told us how amazing the skyscrapers look at night, and sunrise. the gorgeous water effects. the much improved targeting/cover system. the real time shadows cast from headlights. we know about the tiny vibrations on rumble when u walk about.. etc
They havnt played the game yet either, like us theyve only seen edited movies.Besides when youre tearing down the streets again, doing all the same stuff again, are you really gonna notice the shadows and the minute differences in design. And as for the rumble feature, how does that work on the ps3 pads ?...ooops.
woop-de-do. Just hurry up and get it released so that all the hype dies down, please. I've been bored of GTA since the second, and 3, VC and SA did nothing to change my mind.
Don';t get me wrong. I'm sure this'll be a great game for those that like this sort of thing. But I'm personally pretty fed up of the crime & controversey genre that Rockstar seem to have made their own. There are far better games out there, but Rockstars offerings get all the attention because of their near-the-knuckle setting.
lol, will be funny I KNOW GTA 4 WILL LOOK AND PLAY SO MUCH BETTER ON THE XBOX 360 FACT!!!!!!!, look at all the Blue-Ray space that will be wasted when the 360 is getting so much more content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyone who thinks otherwise should just cop on!!!!!!!!!!!!11
