Boogie II to use Wii's Balance Board?

EA looks to capitalise on the Wii Fit movement
It's being reported that EA is to take full advantage of the Wii Fit Balance Board by using it in the as-yet unannounced Boogie 2.

The original Boogie received mixed reviews. Our friends on NGamer gave it 60 percent, stating: "It's sadly less of a dancefloor filler and more just filler until something better comes along".

Despite this, EA appears to be pushing forward with the party game franchise, if the rumours are to be believed.

We're way into speculative territory here, but we expect the Balance Board to act like a dancemat, measuring your prowess on the floor. Why EA feels this is something other than a very bad idea, we don't know.

I thought the original Boogie was a flop?

Anyway I don't like that sort of game, but if it leads to EA and other developers experimenting with the Balance Board for other games then go for it.

I'd be all for this if they could actually make it work. The reviews of Boogie weren't exactly great, but there's no saying a sequel wouldn't improve on those flaws (see how open minded I am, even with Eviltronic Arts?).

I can't see any real practical use for the Balance Board other than things like this. Although using it as a way to move in a FPS could be interesting. Step on the front to move forward, back to reverse and sides to strafe - it might work.

The thing is, if the board is only designed to detect changes in weight distribution, it's not going to work that well for people throwing themselves around like they do on the equivalent dance mats.

I can imagine the splash screens now.
1. Attach Wii Remote strap
2. Ensure plenty of space around you
3. Use protective cover thingy
4. Do not wear slippery soles or socks
5. Don't jump on the damn board, you crazy fool!
6. Make sure there's a soft landing available when you fall on your bottom
7. Don't sue us when you break a limb
8. Seriously, we won't touch it
9. No we won't fix your TV either
