One step closer for console Crysis...

Crytek to unveil cross-platform CryEngine 2 next month
Crysis and Far Cry developer Crytek is unveiling a cross-platform version of its latest technology at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month.

Unless you've recently been born, you'll know that the proprietary tech - CryEngine 2 - is the engine behind Crysis.

A select GDC audience will witness CryEngine 2 running on Xbox 360 and PS3, news which has already set our speculation (and common sense) hats in a twirl.

Surely this is indication that Crysis is definitely console bound? Well, maybe.

Crytek's never said outright that its first-person shooter is heading to console, however it's not been afraid to discuss such hypothetically.

In October last year it revealed that a positive reception of the PC game would urge it to seriously consider delivering console versions.

"In order to make Crysis's gameplay [on console] you would have to make a derivative Crysis and optimise it for the Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, if we do it, we'll optimise it for each platform", Crytek boss Cevat Yerli said at the time.

Recently, rumour that a 'Crysis 1.5' is in development for PS3 was doing the rounds.

Anyway, while the display of CryEngine 2 on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be restricted at GDC, the public gets to see "how well the fully optimised" engine can run on a PC costing around $600 - and that, folks, is complete with a keyboard and mouse!

It would be nice to see some of the big hitters on PC coming to console; Crisis; Far Cry 2 & Stalker are 3 belters to start with.

Happy days indeed.

Bit extreme that is it not? Why cant we all game happily ever after without it bordering on civil war.

And by the way what kind of graphics card do get in a £2000,000,000,000 PC. Betcha it's a cracker.

Far Cry 2 is already confirmed for PS360 release. Stalker's another that would work well, so I hope that when THQ is busily spilling further details about Clear Sky, next month (surely going to be shown, at GDC, you'd imagine) that someone will mention, or at least query, console plans for Stalker, too? Smile

lol, nah, im all for sharing the wealth and id much prefer if all games were multi format, just got tired of the Crysis on PS3 argument( which will definately flare up here again lol ) whereby the PC version will have to be changed a lot due to the PS3's limitations. I wouldnt even have considered running Crysis on my old 7800GTX( same gfx card as a PS3 ) nevermind only getting 33FPS on very high settings at 1280x960 on my 8800GT overclocked and Core 2 @ 3.3Ghz

Oh and the gpu in a PC costing £2000,000,000,000 would be a nice Nvidia FX5200 Very Happy

I think if they can optimise Crysis for each platform, and get it running at a lovely smooth framerate with pretty graphics, then everyone will be happy. All you'll have to do is take your pick at which platform you'd prefer to play it on, simple.

I'm not really that fussed neither. But hey, if they manage to get it running and looking great, then I'll have a whirl.

can anyone actually tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps with the naked eye.Personaly i dont know the difference and cant tell the difference either so what does it matter.as soon as the developers print on the box 60fps everyone gets crazy talking about how amazing its gonna be.

I could see the consoles delivering the game on medium at 720p. It looks awesome at those settings anyway, and very few people short of the NSA have machines that can play crysis at Very High 1080p anyway.

Console gamers, trust me if you like shooters you want to play this game. It really is awesome.

I played through the tank battle last night, most of which I spent on foot, but anyway it was incredible.

Yeah! The tank bit was great. My tank died pretty quick so I did most of it on foot too. Max speeding from those little clusters of tree cover, dumping a det pack on a tank, then running clear and blowing it to f**k before the barrel has even had a chance to swing in your direction...awesome. Cool
