3D Realms "polishing" Duke Nukem

Could the Duke finally be nearing an actual release?
3D Realms is currently polishing Duke Nukem Forever's pink bits, which kind of suggests the FPS sequel just might be edging towards completion.

"Well, we're doing a lot of polishing of set pieces, environments, and characters", DNF art director Tramell Isaac revealed when questioned under gunpoint.

The game's been rumoured for release this year, although considering its development history no one's about to start counting the chickens just yet.

However, with 3D Realms recently releasing that teaser trailer, at least a full public reveal in 2008 is a dead cert.

Isaac revealed that the trailer was a huge moral boost for the development team, reaffirming that what we saw was in-engine and in-game (see the trailer here if you missed it).

"The majority of the feedback was positive, which was great. The more critical responses were helpful as well because we have time to make adjustments", he added about the teaser.

He also said that Duke Nukem Forever is primarily set in near-future Las Vegas.

Oh I hope that after all this, it isn't rubbish. It wont be rubbish will it?...can't be. *Crosses fingers, chants 'Please dont be rubbish, please dont be rubbish* Crying or Very sad

If it was to be set in a near-future Las Vegas, and its already taken so long, perhaps its now set in a near-past Las Vegas? Razz

I bet the dev's have a statuette of the Duke in the office and are just 'polishing' it. Probably have'nt started the game yet! Laughing

Honestly I just can't see how this game can possibly live up to the hype. I mean it's been in development for what, 10 years?

I too hope it'll be good (for the developers sake Wink ) but a 10 year hype summit? I just can't see it being reached.
SuperCinos on 30 Jan '08
Hopefully they aren’t polishing a turd.

The PS3 version will be better than all versions!!!!

LaughingLaughing

Sorry couldn't resist Embarassed

Seriously though I hope that it plays well and does a good job of putting you back in Duke's boots.

If this game actually gets released, and if, by some far-fetched miracle it should turn out to not be a complete disappointment, this could very well be a turning point for the way I view the whole world around me.

Otherwise, it'll be back to cynicism and bitterness as usual.

I'm watching this one with the belief that the Duke will have lost his... "charm" over the years and that it'll end up just another bland shooter.

That way, if it turns out to be lame, I won't be too diappointed.

I'm also hoping it comes with an editor as easy to use as the one with DN3D. My friend and I made so many levels with that, then (because this was 1997 and pre-net for us) sent them to each other via floppy disk in the mail. A Golden Age Smile

Duke Nukem Forever gets a release date!

31/12/9999.

Unfortunately, due to the limitations of the 4-digit millennium bug, it was not possible to categorically define infinity.

I'm not getting my hopes up. The teaser really didn't look as good as everyone made out. And before anyone calls me on the fact that, yes, it was a teaser. Please remember that it's the only piece of media released for the game in the last 5 years (is it?), that isn't a minuscule image on a job advert.

I really want to love the game, but I can't see such a long development helping a game, especially considering all the great games that have been released in that time.

As good as HL is I believe Galaxy is the best game made so far, but DNF needs to be even better than this after 10+ years in development!

Yeah I've got a copy of Mario Galaxy on my Wii, I love it but my fave mario is Super Mario 3 on the NES. Shocked I could play that right now Razz

Mario Galaxy and Mario 64 have been excellent but for me personally I love me some Mario 3.

Not saying you're wrong so don't mistake my post for that, everyone has their favourite in the Mario franchise and mine just happens to be number 3, some like Mario World on the SNES, etc. Cool

Vectra, something very weird going on here, first of all my favourite console and computer are the same as yours (Saturn/A1200) and now you're loving off my favourite of all teh marios, namely number 3 on the NES....twas a golden age to be sure!

Edit: Also love the R34 (have you seen the new Skyline? f**k me! But i will have to say Rhianna beats Christina Milian, if only by an eyelash.

Edit2: Also i am hoping this game is as good as the first Duke3D as it was without a doubt the game that got me in to PC gaming. Awesome.

I liked the way you went back on topic for the second edit Laughing

I loved my Saturn, I know it didn't do as well as hoped but it had enough games to keep me and from what I've seen in the retro threads many others happy.

The A1200 was also a good computer and up until PCs hit 200+Mhz that little box with a 50Mhz accelerator kept up quite well and had more games than any one person could possibly need. It's also had the biggest bedroom programmer support I've ever seen on a platform owned Shocked

I remember first seeing Mario 3 on the NES, it did not look like an 8 bit game and it was just ahead of it's time. I remember being amazed at how much bigger and better it was than previous Mario's, how well it played (even stands up well today) and I became jealous of all NES owners (I had an SMS at the time). I started spending every spare moment I could at my friends playing it Laughing

The new Skyline is hot stuff, maybe someday I'll be behind the wheel of one.

Rhianna is nice as well but I prefer my Christina, dunno what it is about her but I find something about her incredibly hot.

To follow your lead Duke Nukem must be good, hopefully it can stand the test of time. I don't think it will be enough to live up to 10 years of hype but it must be playable. And after all those years in dev it has got to be absolutely bug-free. Otherwise what were they doing for 10 years?
