Battlefield Heroes - launch content revealed

So what does a free download get you?
Despite a lack of official in-game views of Battlefield Heroes from EA - still! - details on the series spin off continue to seep out.

The new information wave reveals that the free-to-download, free-to-play game (set in WWII) will initially launch with two teams (National Army and Royal Army) and two to three maps. EA plans to boost the level count after release.

It's been mentioned previously that players will select a character that levels up during the action, but it's now emerged that they'll gain access to a variety of abilities.

In keeping with Battlefield Heroes' cartoon-y nature, the abilities are OTT, the likes of inflammable ammo and chuck-back-seven-grenades-in-the-face-of-your-enemy revealed.

Unlike other Battlefield games, Heroes doesn't feature selectable insertion points in maps. Instead, where you enter the fray is chosen for you. However, outside of that gameplay sounds familiar with details on a Conquest play mode letting slip that flag capture and the ticket system is retained.

And naturally, as this is a Battlefield game, you'll be able to leap into the likes of planes and tanks. But again due to the cartoon nature EA has gone for an unrealistic size proportion between character and vehicle. Think The Army Surplus Special in The Wacky Races if you're old and bald enough to remember that fat back.

Hopefully we'll have first proper in-game Battlefield Heroes screens soon.
