Shiny new graphics and a number of new and improved areas have been revealed in the latest batch of screens of Sony's PlayStation Home.
After being delayed from its 2007 release, the world still awaits a firm release date from Sony, but it seems the extra development time is being put to good use because it's looking really nice.
In the shots you can see some of the new outdoor environments, an empty home space that'll be yours to full with furniture and whatnot, and another peak at the Lounge, where playable arcade machines and other recreational activities can be found.
We'll have loads more info on PS Home soon, but in the meantime take a look at the screens below and, if you fancy, poke around on the new official Japanese site.
you're just sposed to hang out with other like minded people who are sat on their bottoms at home but want to interact with others. i think this will be brilliant, it certainly looks smart enough. as long as there isnt millions of people screaming abuse at each other in the virtual streets then this should be really really good.
I hope there's the option for this to replace the xmb when you sign in, so it loads this up instead, but I would like to know more of how you can jump in and out of this when playing a game.
They need to add a bus station, corner shop for places where kids gather in little groups. And a beach for virtal woman to show off there virtual body, for umm..people that like to look at virtual babes.
God this is going to be weird..
if its like shenmue tho. having a game of darts or pool in the pub and other little game it could be cool.
This just looks better and better! This is one of the reasons why my girlfriend wanted a PS3! The only problem is that when this comes out my girlfriend will spend more time on the PS3 than me!!!
Ugh, second life is crap. I logged on, chose a character with the sample textures that kept glitching and breaking.
I then walked around the training area for a while, in super-jerky mode (I had a 6meg broadband at the time) then when i wanted to leave i couldnt work out how to, i then asked about 30 other people who had the same problems as me.
Then when i did somehow find out how to, none of the maps I wanted to join worked.
Then I decided that I would never ever ever EVER ever play it again.
Home, I am looking forward to though. Just as an interactive hub.
I would like there to be an option that when you start up the PS3 you are instantly in home and you can choose what to do that way. Not sure if I have heard that is possible or not?
Also they should resist making it charge for every little thing it can.
If your asking about cost, isn't it meant to be free, due to advertisements, because everyone who's ps3 is online will download it, if your against it or not, ( you know you will ) for arguments sake when it comes out there's 10 million ps3 owners, that's a lot of people looking at adverts, which = more money into home = more content = more users taking intrest = more adverts.....
well that's how I see the cost working out, possibly buying games and watching movies will cost. but it would be foolish to charge for everything

I've read an interview with a developer basically stating the same as you. Therefor, I agree. The big advertisements are probably going to be from games and movies. Imagine being a games developer and having to decide when the best time is to advertise their game on tv. Probably an expensive time in-between lost or the football. On HOME they will be advertising to the core audiences, far cheaper. And better still, keeping the majority of the network free to the users. Genius, really. Especially if it is a fun enviroment to be in.
Am I the only one that thinks this whole home thing is looking a bit dull? If it's a virtual world why can't it be on a space station? or an alien world? or a pirate island? Why make it look like an out of town shopping Mall? It's like Ikea meets Milton Keynes.

an article in OPM said over time and 3rd parties geting involved in home it'll grow & grow, also they'll release tools to create content for home, then home's executive producer peter edwards waffled on about creating a 'moon base' for home, safe to say that anythings possible with home
am i the only one thinking that this wont be released to everyone at the same time.I mean at the rate the ps stores get updated individually the chance of us getting it b4 amer5ica and japan are slimmer5 thn slim imo

I'll wait for the post apocalyptic home then. Where you can stack your achievements on a pile of rubble in the corner of your hovel and throw the less impressive ones at the hungry hoards trying to break in and steal your solitary tin of beans.
myspace and facebook are utter w*nk, yet millions of people use that. home will be the same sort of thing but in a 3D virtual space instead of on a website. your "homepage" will be your apartment which you are free to "pimp" like on myspace, you can play your own tunes into your pad, again like myspace. i see home becoming huge, helping shift a lot of ps3's before people get bored if it like they have of myspace. i wonder if you can loot, burgle and rob your way to virtual riches lol.
you WON'T get away with anything like, a few months ago one off sony's top brass said in the public spaces the won't tolerate any dodge behaviour, remember young kids will have entirely the same access as a fully grown adult,
so this dude says that every word spoken or typed get's recorded and if the evidence conforms with a complaint made against you, your Ps3 is banned from going online, in your private areas you can watch/say/do anything.
I'm very interested to give Home a spin but I hope it doesn't take off to the extent that the XMB is replaced. As it stands (and I could yet be proven wrong) I really don't see Home as something I'll use very much at all. Unless you are the kind of person who already logs in to Habbo Hotel or Second Life every day, I'm not sure this will do any more to hook you in.
Although, stuff like special events would probably keep people coming back... hopefully there'll be trailer premieres and stuff like that... maybe also if we get a CVG Home set up it might be interesting for a bunch of us to meet up there for a chat and to play some games. It's hard to tell how engaging it will really be without actually trying it.
